Re: Epic Games Store to continue weekly giveaways through 2021

I was late to the party with Epic not liking the 'exclusives' however I've started collecting the free games now as its just a click. I did even spend £5 on a single game using on the £10 off vouchers. Not sure I'd ever buy a game there at full price though. Steam is just my gaming home...

Re: Epic Games Store to continue weekly giveaways through 2021

I find them all about the same, really.
Origin, Uplay, GoG and Epic launchers are almost identical in function, as far as my uses go.

Steam is obviously more advanced/mature/refined, but it also comes packed with a butt-load of fluff and gubbins and pointless cack... like trading cards and gems and badges. I got one badge proudly displayed, that says I bought a game during one of their perpetual sales (of which they seem to have more than DFS!), and then I have one proudly displayed badge to say that I voted in a poll once... and then another badge, proudly displayed, to say that I have those other two badges.

All have their pros and cons, so I just go with whoever offers the best deals, really.
Free games are working for Epic and I'm fine with that. Others have done it in the past and the world still has not ended...

It's the "paid exclusives" part where EGS stops me from ever touching it. Principles, free games or not it'll never get installed on my machine on that basis.

Re: Epic Games Store to continue weekly giveaways through 2021

Played many of the free games and bought a good few too.

As for people judging a company after an install base with moral standard it just doesn't work in business.

Exclusives don't stop me getting a game and push users to the platform, this is a good business move in trying to break the virtual monopoly of steam. Is it corrupt? no, is it fair? yes. You can bet if they start getting towards 50% market share Valve will do the same.

In short you have one company happily sitting on a monopoly and another trying to break that monopoly, neither party is good/bad or holy/evil, its just business.

Well done to Epic you are doing a great job.

The only reason I continue having Epic Games launcher is exactly this, to be honest, quite a few games they given free over the last year are pretty good and definitely worth having in your library

I'm sure Epic realises that's the case. If they were to say no more free shizzle they'd watch they're numbers crash and burn.

Thanks - I knew you could now delete them from your account forever, but didn't realise about simply hiding them.
That gives me a task to do at some point, it got a bit out of control at one point lol

A shame you can't sell titles

I've stopped buying in their sales now, I got madly addicted for no reason whatsoever other than thinking I'd be rewarded greatly with a high level.
If you shop around you can generally beat their sale prices.

Have there been any indications in what we can expect from the Epic store drops?

Re: Epic Games Store to continue weekly giveaways through 2021

EGS is a fine platform, I use Steam mostly though as that's where most of my games are, but I do claim the freebies sometimes from EGS and I've bought the odd game which was on offer.
The one I really don't like is Origin. It's always updating and asking for a re-login far too often, and feels like a more of an overhead than the others.

Have to agree with you rich835, Origin does ask to log in too often, its quite annoying

Epic store has been one of the best launchers for releasing free games. Theyve had some good titles come out for free

Spending more on extra storage with this than I would have done if I had to buy the games haha. Still a great thing, got some classics that I've missed for years. Abe's Oddysee was the best one I got from that! Right up there in my all-time-favourite games list.
