    Google Maps UK is here

    Google's wonderful map tool is now available in the UK, as is Google Local.

    I've just been playing around with a map of my area and it is a very nifty tool to use.

    From Google's blog
    Sometimes it's hard being a Brit in Silicon Valley. Have you tried to find a decent pint, authentic fish and chips or well-made bowler hats in northern California lately? (Okay, the last one isn't a priority.) There's also that feeling of being left out when new technology gets launched in the U.S. before it reaches the rest of the world.
    I spotted this on Slashdot.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    It be fun. the directions system is very accurate, and amusingly will combine shortcuts with the long way around. better than AA or RAC for directions at least (shaved 3/4 mile and 1/2 mile respectively off journeys from my place to my parents)

    map is groovy - just can't wait until it's integrated with satellite imagery.

    google local seems to pull data only from yell - who want stupid amounts of money to put my website address into my ad.

    Kez...I might kiss you. This is AMAZING.

    It scrolls , unlike Multimap. Its looks good, although doesn't have contours on it.

    Superb route finder

    Cheers dude....gonna score this thread 5* I suggest everyone else does too

    Cheers

    Just used it to process my trip to Acon5 tomorrow and the route this has thrown up is QUICKER than the others as well.

    google is getting pretty useful now with maps, emails and other useful things. I wonder when google are going to make google-girls who adhere to our every whim

    I've found a road it doesn't know of

    "Sir Matt Busby Way" comes back with no results. Similar to last nights performance then

    I have tried again, using my wife's PC, and also a linux box, and it worked correctly

    I think that it must be a problem with the plugins I had loaded. Both my wife's PC and my linux box have very few firefox plugins installed, but my work PC where I have the problem has about 20. Does your firefox setup have lots of plugins?

    I have worked out the cause.

    In the firefox options, under 'Web Features' there is the option to load images only from the originating website. This options can act as a simple but effective ad blocker, but it also prevents google maps (and a number of other sites) from displaying images correctly.
