Wanadoo 'flattered' by BT copycat move

In an advert placed in The Sunday Telegraph yesterday, Wanadoo - the ISP that used to be called Freeserve and is set to be renamed Orange - said it was "flattered" by BT's decision to follow "Wanadoo's lead in making 2 Meg its standard broadband offer for customers".

Said the "Dear Ben" letter: "We don't blame you for trying to emulate the great deals we give ? but let's be honest, our customers are still going to be a lot better off than yours".

And in a dig at BT's position as both a wholesale and retail supplier of broadband the letter says: "OK, we may have to charge £20 to upgrade an existing customer to 2 Meg - but you know why that is don't you? Yes, it's because you folks at BT charge us to do it. Still, local loop unbundling will sort that issue out won't it?

Nice little dig there @ BT

2Mb SHOULD be standard - not a premium in this technology driven society. Hell stuff that - pull the plugs BT and get ADSL running at "real" broadband speeds, with a good upload - more than 30 kb/s if possible, as ADSL can support 8 mbps Downstream and 1 Mb upstream.

Oh while I'm at it, ADSL2+ would be nice anytime soon

Yes but they are going to be "London" only to start. Don't they realise that the WORLD does not start, begin and end in London. This is the 21st Century - not caveman england with 1 major town

The thing is that BT only have the new systems in London.

They are rolling out soon though.

I remember seeing it on a BBC program, somthing about VOIP calls and stuff and how BT are testing using (can you believe it) DNS server for phonecalls, like they are doing in the netherlands.

Im on wanadoo and feel completely ripped off at the moment, paying 20 quid a month for 512k, just cant be bothered to move

If they are doubling my speed, to 1meg, its about time, if theres a 20 quid charge, I will still be moving ISP

My migration from Wanadoo to Nildram took about 5 minutes of "Work" by me to sort out. Literally.

All I had to do was phone Wanadoo, ask them for a Migration Access Code, explain to them why I wanted to leave (bandwidth cap too small for the money). They'd emailed me a Migration Code after 24-48 hours.

I then phoned Nildram, gave them the code, and they arranged for it all to be transferred over.

The migration happened today. Hooray! There's a small story about that actually. Got my email from Nildram a few days ago with my account info, username and automatically generated password. I didn't bother to print it out - just thought I'd leave it on my Gmail account so I could access it from there when I needed it.

So, I go to log in this morning. Dial in as normal - username not valid. Ahh yes, of course, today is migration day.

So, type in my new Nildram username..... then type in my passwo.............. oh f***!!!

Obviously forgot that to access my Gmail to get my Nildram info, I needed to....... access the internet!

    *cough*

(sorted now, logged on at work and gave the PW to the missus over the phone )

I'm still changing from wanandoo, their cap is rediculous for the price, and what I can get elsewhere.
