As for "M$", it doesn't annoy me personally, but to me it just makes the person typing it look petty, pointless, unoriginal and, well a bit whiny TBH. As if MS is the only computer company in the world created to make lots of money. It immediately makes me think of rabid Linux fanboys*, it's not saying anything that hasn't been said a million times before, and it's like hearing someone tell the same joke over and over and over again.
* I'm not referring to all Linux users, just the ones that bleat on and on and on about exactly how and why the penguin should reign supreme.
hahahaha, penny arcade, not read that for ages
Where the hell did that come from - brilliant stuff.Originally Posted by directhex
Ok I feel we have crossed paths on the M$ situation. I use M$ simply because its easy, not because I'm having a stab at them for their money (they deserved it) and thats it. I never thought of it as a joke nor an attack and as such I used it because everyone knew who I was referring to.
MS does however look better and I think its more of a matter of habit than an actual statement against/for/by them.
We've stolen enough of this thread and taken a serious discussion (albeit one-sided) to the luxuries of being English (our lanaguage) to handbags at dawn. Case closed. I'll try and change to MS instead of M$ - last one promise.
However using MS people might think you are railing against the crippling neurological disease.
Not around too often!
But with a lowercase 's', they haven't used MicroSoft since the 80s at least
This whole idea is proof of the ignorance displayed daily by some segments of the public. As was pointed out earlier, video games are a prime example. GTA San Andreas does not deserve its higher censorship rating; there is no 'unlockable content' which can be made use of without editing the game itself via an unofficial patch. Someone has to change the code (albeit a small amount of code, but code none the less), and thus they are editing the game's very foundations, something which Rockstar is not responsible for.
Its this kind of computing ignorance which cause groups like this to pop up, and I'm afraid to say that if the media (i.e. The Daily Mail, The Mirror and organisations such as the MPAA) continue to sensationalise their information to target what the older generation/less knowledgable people fear concerning computers, we'll have a lot more of these bogus claims and protests to face in the future.

New Sig on the Way...
Would you buy a car with no seats only to be told you won't get them for 6 months and you will have to take your car back to get them fitted without them paying for any of the fuel you use???
I bet you wouldn't
The complexity of the car is not much different from the computer, just more people complain about computers because there are many places to complain.
Can the same be said about software?????
Hope you see my point and where i'm coming from
I think comparing the way OS architecture and the problems that are encountered, with 6 month waiting times on car seats is ludicrous. I admit that the situation isn't perfect, but it theoretically can't be at the present time and with the present methods we have and use.
I'm sorry to say that anyone who expects a perfect solution to such a massive undertaking is simply dillusional

The OS market is far too unique and ever-changing to ever be seen as pure black and white.
As I said before the OS is in a market of its own and as such its consumers, developers and users accept that the code is written and because of the easy availablity of the net then updates are made available when problems arise.
do you mean to say your pissed off at Nvidia or ATI for releasing updated drivers, where if they had worked on it for that much longer they wouldn'y need to release any more updates. no, because the amount of software used in conjuction with Vista/XP or whatever OS you use means there will always be incompatiability issues and therefore we can either wait for all software/hardware to be tested with Vista before release or accept that 99% will work and if not let us know and we'll get it right for you. thats not wrong, thats the best customer service for you!
One of the problems is there is not a good alterative to MS at the moment they have the monopoly so can say how its done. There is no onbusman to say how OS's should be when released. They can make the rules up as they go, which is just plain wrong.
How hard is it to write an OS?
That sounds like a flippant remark, hope it wasn't.Originally Posted by 114thDeath

There are no ombudsman because it cant work that way. We buy the OS knowing full well the system will need updating in 6 months time, so why we do we use Windows? Microsoft software and why dont we all use Linux? Because its something we need and to meet that need a product is made, thing is the product is a) demanded so pushed forward and b) marketed on some people to push it forward and have the latest thing. So we accept the faults and understand that if Microsoft was to release a non-buggy version Vista it would add another 5 years to the wait.
Microsoft has pushed hardware and software along so much and without them there would be no resemblance of what we today call a PC. We owe them a lot and for that their rich.
I agree - it must take millions of man hours to write an o/s. Who remembers the BBC computers and doing simple programmes that took hours. The amount of PC variations, third party software and security threats mean that support is needed. I hope the support for Vista is up to the task - I am sure there will be loads of patches released within a few months of the release.
