What kind of video cable is that?
The connector looks like nothing I have seen before, Could it be that Microsoft have deleberately created a new connector, so that they can maintian the XBox's clean lines (While having an ungly break out box on the end of a dongle), or perhaps to create something incompatible, so they can charge us $30 for replacement or longer cables.
That sucks that it can only handle the one type of video format And no dvd over lan?!?! balls to that...
http://img.hexus.net/v2/internationa...2/P1010063.JPG That screen is a freaking monster, the sort of circus clown of TV's
Nice article, that 360 is one v sexy beast. Yes, I can imagine it sitting nicely next to my computer
Why would you want to stream DVD over lan anyway?

Slightly confused by the news that Vista will be 'Media Centre' enabled as standard since it's been posted on The Green Button forums that there's a Vista MCE SKU planned.
Edit: Also mentioned in a recent Steve Balmer interview

To work around region coding I would guess.Originally Posted by Dougal
MCE users can store their DVD collection on hard drive and use the 'My Movies' plugin to view them in Media Center.
Can someone explain this?it is only avaliable over the LAN you can only do this with a local disk.
XBOX 360 won't except anything but WMV9 encrypted Video, and i suppose DVR-MS files?
and if this is the case about the WMV9 files when are microsoft going to make the WMV encoder a HELL OF ALOT EASIER TO USE?
I've used the DivX encoder and its simple, easy as, Heres my Video (whatever file type!), click encode, and whadda you know, there it is, done!
When will microsoft make such a piece of simple, easy to use, powerfull, software that, in the end, they are trying to push on us anyway?
Imagine if Microsoft owned DivX and the XBoX360 only accepted DivX files, people would be lke ok, i'll convert all my files WMV's, AVI's, MPG's, VOB's, ISO's, the LOT! Cause its easy to do!
Do this microsoft and your onto a winner.
Does the File Compressor (piece of software seen advertized all over MCE websites lately) which converts DVR-MS files into WMV9 file do it on the fly? and does it only convert DVR-MS files? and why for the love of GOD does MCE just not record in WMV9?????????????
Rant over.
What a pile of scruttocks! Now I've got to RE-re-encode all my DVD's into WMV9.....flangetastic.
"Microsoft: Buggering things up for as long as you can remember."
or it could be that they had to compact the connector to get hdmi digital +analog audio, composite ans svideo out the same hole. consoles always have proprietary connectors.Originally Posted by chrestomanci
And whats wrong with the wmv encoder? it isnt the same as movue maker, and its very easy to use imo.
People should stop complaining, if you dont like, dont use it, go buy a ps3, and you wont even be able to do wmv. half doing it is better than nothing at all.
Yeah but they're not just "half-doing it", they're deliberately trying to force their proprietary media format on us for no good reason. They don't charge for the use of WMP, they don't charge for WMA/WMV codecs, so there's nothing to be gained from it other than market share that has no apparant value.
If WMV9 was capable of compressing videos to the same size and quality of DivX videos, then I wouldn't be so bothered.
Are Microsoft trying to wind us up? It's like they give with one hand and take with the other. I guess the worlds going DRM mad now. I wont be buying one until A) They have some kind of PVR functionality, and B) They increase file format support. Until then there is no compelling features to tear me away from my PC.
Please remind me about XMBC.Originally Posted by dangel
I remember something about it. I also remember that if you used it you couldn't get on "XBOX Live" anymore, and you lost your warranty. I won't be so fussed about the loss of the warranty anymore, however i would be upset if I couldn't use "XBOX Live" anymore.
My re-intrest in XMBC is because I have come to the conslusion that the "XBOX Media Centre Extender" is NOT going to be released in the UK.
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU BASTARDS MICROSOFT!!!!
Sometime i love Microsoft, i really do, but sometimes, just sometimes they really really really annoy me!
Why oh Why could you not have made a UK version of such a great and needed piece of kit.
My (soon to be) old XBOX is going to become a doorstop, (and a quite effective one at that lol) I'd love to put my OLD XBOX in say, the kitchen or kids bedroom, and use it as a Media Centre Extender but i can't, and why not? Cause i live in the UK.
Why did we give away the colonies?
However the XMBC idea has sprung new life onto this idea, and as long as it don't stop me from going on XBOX Live, i'm game to give XMBC a whirl!
Timon
p.s. unless of course a XBOX Media Center Extender IS Planned for the UK, in which case the entire post has been for nothing and i will look foolish and will happily crawl back under the rock from which i came........... (But i doubt it...)
