I dont think they copied as such, but I think the only reason they included it at all was to undermine Nintendo.

Nintendo probably didn't need to say anything.
I'm pretty sure that when everybody say Sony's 'suprise' at E3, they all thought oh my lord, that's a copy of Nintendo.

CakeOrDeath hit the nail on the head, it's not a like for like copy, but it's surely an attempt to undermine Nintendo.

The PS copy is a poor imitation. It does include the positional sense like the Wii.

    Sony are a joke.

Wasn't there something on the net about Sony coming up with the idea ages ago?

hmm, i think there was somthing about it being on the drawing board at some point yes.

but, i actually think M$ were the first people to use the technology, in a PC controller, quite ironic really.....

It doesn't really matter who came up with the idea IMO, so long as someone comes up with a decent use for it.. Ninty have the upper hand here because their controller offers 'full' sensitivity, whereas Sony have only got tilt sensitivity. This makes sense though, because i can't think of many Sony titles that could actually use the tilt function to better the gameplay, whereas Wii uses it in just about every game that's set to come out. As to who copied who, i doubt that Sony actually 'copied' Nintendo's design implements, it may have just been a logical thing to put into a controller. It could be possible that Sony nicked the idea of an analogue stick for their controllers after they realised how successful the N64 was (someone tell me if i'm wrong though ), on the other hand.

Im no fanboy. Ive got a PS2, gamecube and an XBOX. It is obvious though that every advance in computer game control comes from nintendo.

eg, analogue stick, rumble feature, gamepad even with the original nes. Sony heard about the Wii controller and thought '**** we better do something.'

Have to agree with Kef9 to be honest.
I'm no nintendo fan boy but he has a point, and I think Parm is right in saying nintendo didn't really need to say anything - it's obvious to everyone who even glanced over E3 coverage!
The PS3 controller is the same as the old sidewinder controllers - look how successful that was...
We'll see if they use it well, but I have a gut feeling it's not gonna be used in that many games.

My favourite controller so far has to be the 360's. They've taken everything from controllers over the past 10-15 years and put it in one practically perfect controller.

It's so comfortable and everything just seems to be right where you want it.
