All BBC World Cup matches available in UK on broadband

The BBC has revealed that all of the World Cup matches that it's broadcasting on TV will also be available to UK residents by broadband. And tennis-lovers will be pleased to know that Auntie is providing UK broadband users with live coverage from five courts during Wimbledon fortnight (June 26-July 9). Commentary, in each case will be as broadcast, though various extras are available to internet users.

BBC footie kicks off with the opening game, just one week away, on Friday June 9 - Germany v Costa Rica, at 5.00pm. England's first match, against Paraguay, will be shown the next day, Saturday June 10, at 2pm. Should England reach the second round and quarter-finals, those matches will be available exclusively on the BBC.
More info - including details of all BBC and ITV first-round coverage - in this HEXUS.headline.

Nothing the Beeb has said yet suggests they will be, so if you want HD, you'll have to subscribe to Sky HD (and may not be able to get it in time for the tournament) or Telewest (and that assumes you live in a Telewest area).

This one contained blatant advertising - and in a first post - so I've zapped it and banned the poster.

Is the BBC broadcasting HD on non-sky satelite yet? that might have been a way to get the World Cup in HD without waiting for Sky to get their boxes out to people.

No, there's a small-scale terrestrial HD trial - but only in London (presumably, it's all BBC people who are in on the trial - or am I being just TOO cynical?).

That is exactly what it is intended to mean - though I wrote the original article on June 2 - a week before the tournament kicked off, and so had no way of checking it (and haven't, in truth, been back to check it since then).

As I write, I can't double-check this (maybe others have actually used the service before and can chime in) because the BBC is not broadcasting any games live on TV over the air right now.

However, I'd expect that this is the page you'd go to:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...06/default.stm

On that same page, you should also see links to the BBC's live radio coverage of all games - whether they are being televised by the BBC or ITV - as well as links to video and audio highlights.

Yup, it's about 3:20pm Thursday afternoon, and there's live BBC One coverage of Czech Rep v Italy here:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...06/default.stm

Mind you, getting a reliable download is a different thing altogether!

This is what the site says on the page that opens to watch the video:
Live BBC One coverage: Czech Rep v Italy

Due to high demand you may encounter network problems outside the BBC's control.

If you are unable to connect please try again later.

Live coverage is also available on BBC One and Radio Five Live.
And, here, anyway, the broadcast stopped after about 2mins!

Same happened to a friend who tried to watch the England match.

Looks like they are a victim of their own success and getting a small hammering
