yeah £180 with a game isnt so bad - £180 without would actually price it above an xbox360 and a budget title..
hughlunnon@yahoo.com | I have sigs turned off..
Not too surprised about the £180 price, I'm sure it'll sell well for Christmas.
However it is a bit surprising to hear that Nintendo will be making a profit from the hardware sales, whereas Sony & MS will be selling their consoles at a loss http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6157690.html?sid=6157690
From that it sounds like they could have easily dropped the price further.
They're probably trying to cash in on Christmas/New Year as much as possible, especially being the only big new thing out. I imagine the price will drop a bit in the first couple of months of 2007. At least that's what I'm hoping
Now available to pre-order on Play.com: http://www.play.com/Games/Wii/HP/3-/...s/Product.html
will wait for game, woolworths, or HMV tbh
Then at least I am not waiting for post
Initially Nintendo said it would be low priced - I don't consider £180 to be low. The games aren't any cheaper than the XBox 360 either, which is another drawback (excluding back catalogue). If only Nintendo had the bottle to lower the price to ~ £100 and they could have made some big sales. At the end of the day all consoles are sold at a loss - the real money is the licencing fees to the software companies and the slice of the game sales they take. Unfortunately, it's launch price is too close to the Xbox360 and I can see Microsoft dropping their price to compete (let's face it they have very deep pockets).
It seems they are really trying to sell it based on the novel controller, while it looks fun in theory I'm not totally sure it will lend itself to all games. Having said that Nintendo's from the SNES onwards have all been about playability - a crucial but sadly often overlooked factor in game design.
Additionally I can see M$ and Sony bringing out similar controllers which I think would be a major dent to sales.
Intel i5 2500k @ stock
Thermalright SI-128 (Bolt-through)
Asus P8Z68V/Gen3
2x8Gb DDR3
ASUS GTX 670 DirectCU II 2Gb
This console was supposed to be cheap - Nintendo are thinking "Hell, if someone buys a 7 year old a £170 iPod they can damn well afford one of these." If it was a high def console with the revolutionary controller(s) then £180 would be great.
Xbox 360s all round thank you.
wii>xbo360 imo

Same here. I feel disappointed about the price, but I'm still going to get one at release.
wow i'm really surprised that people are complaing about the price!
This is just the LAUNCH price - and as launch prices go this is low. Much lower than the 300quid launch price of the 360...and i'm not even going to mention that current projected launch price for the PS3, or how much higher it could rise (that's if it is ever released)
really it's a snap for the price, i'm just happy that it is under £200..and will still pick one up as soon as I can afford it
its just a bit of a joke that in Japan it costs just under £115 and in the US just over £130. Ninty are taking the piss slightly with a price of £180 for Europe and the UK.
I am suprised at everyone knocking the price...seems you all want something for free these days. Remember (as Spud1 says) this is just a laugh price and all the other prices like £150 were speculation, NOT fact. You should read these rumours with a missive handful of salt, as nowadays anyone can start a rumour on the internet. Plus its cheap in Japan and US as that doesn't inlcude sales tax, which in the US can vary wildly and also just in counties it is different.
I'm probably not getting at laugh but next year after buying a better telly for the house plus got some PC kit. Makes that £150 for 1 graphics card look bloody silly now.
So let me get this straight. This is £180 for a launch console, with a game, and people are complaining?
It's obvious that most of you are too open to suggestion, too gullible, to even look at pre-release 'information' (read: hype). If you can't see hype for what it is then you will always be dissapointed.
