That's a 3:2 proportioned screen. Where's 16:9 ?! What a waste! Given it's dimensions, this could have been the best portable movie (&tv) player around.... apple need to take a leaf out of Sony's PSP book on that one!
Still, google maps on the go (presume it won't sat nav but that would rock), stock market grapher, easy to use calculator and full qwerty texting all do, I think, differentiate from the usual slew of other mobiles out there. And for all the doubters who say current mobiles have most of these features, well a recent survey showed that a very significant majority of people who have mp3 capable mobiles don't use them to listen to music (including me!). iphone could be different in that respect I think. I for one welcome our new apple masters!
Am I right in saying the first gen of this ridiculous (ly sexy) phone device won't have 3G?
Let's hope a new iteration comes out when the UK gets some iPhone loving
correct on the 3G front. But then, apparently the US doesn't have proper 3G, their high speed data networks have been described as 2.75G
We are up to 3.5G with t-mobile in some areas too.
when i first saw this i wanted it, multi touch screen fun.
Then i heard it had no 3g data, but wifi, yet been sold via carrier networks.... this made me think what the hell is going on, what is it? Is it a smart phone or a lump of plastic?
But then i heard it ran OS X... good i thought, then i thought about what a mobile has to do, and enless they've shifted it onto dedicated silicon, you would have to butcher the kernel to get it all done on a low pwer RISC.
Then i heard i wouldn't be allowed to write for it. Yey!
Well done apple. A £1,000 price tag wouldn't put me off as much as that. My mobile has worms, sim city on it, i've made for it chain re-action, and a tetris program, working on a version of impact. Its fun for train journies and the like.
So well done apple, the one time in recent history i was tempted by a product, you've gone and killed my intrest instantly.
The notion of your ring tone having to be approved by apple.... WHAT!? I recall it was the fact you could make them for free on the nokias that sparked that whole industry. You can say what you like about windows mobile been out of date with modern stuff dumped on the top (.net) but at least its encouraging innovation.

I have to agree with you that not being able to write software for it is its biggest weakness. One of my favorite parts of OS X is the easy of software development with the Cocoa framework using xCode.

basically it becomes a remote extender to your windows media PC.
Because however, its not apple there are competitors making software, the main limitation of the 360 media center is lack of full codec support (divx etc) But on hexus there is a CES link i think to some 3rd party software for the 360 that will support it. I guess what i'm saying is wait n see

wow, i''m more exiting to see the tv with component and hdmi for only 200 quid. I wanna know what size is the monitor. But it only supports hdtv 720p.
so....
Yes i think i will be waiting on this.
The apple TV looks good for £200, but i need to use iTunes. Im guessing ill have to be running iTunes in order for the apple TV unit to access my media files?
The demo on the website shows the navigation to be very easy, which is what i would like for other members of my household.
