For an i7 system? I think RAM will drop a bit by then.
I don't share Tarinder's faith that motherboards will drop much though. Maybe 20-30 quid or so to take the early adopter shine off, but we need P55 and equivalents to actually make them affordable, and my own guess is that that will be saved for a years time (depending on AMD). Tarinder might have some inside info but we can only ask for his informal opinion if that's the case
The new socket is still rumour, but it's meant to be either 1160 (or 1156 if you like your rumours very speculative). Biscuit is right that it goes back to dual channel as well. Personally that suits me fine - a nice tightly optimised chipset that only has one bridge chip, dual channel memory and so on would be great, especially if they take another leaf from AMDs book and make the more mainstream motherboard last for more than one CPU generation. By all means let the uber enthusiasts upgrade motherboards every year, they might have done that anyway, but us mere mortals want to keep them longer!
