Re: Reviews - ASUS GeForce GTX 465 - Fermi for under £250

Junk is a bit harsh, but there's a lot of truth to it. It's not so much the performance for the price that's bad, it's just the rest of the caveats. Were GTX400 cards as efficient, cool and quiet as the Radeons, while I still wouldn't recommend them, I'd at least understand people who bought them. As it stands at the moment, the only reason you'd ever buy one is through ignorance or fanboyism. I'd say CUDA, but you should really be buying a workstation grade card for such uses (and in any case, why not just get a used GTX200 card instead? )

I can't see why anyone dislikes the 470,

a 120MHz OC which is easily doable with stock cooling gets it to GTX 480 level which is above the 5870 and does better in DX11 anyway for £30 less

    I believe they are.

gtx465 aimed at 5850....hit and miss

gtx470 aimed at 5870...again, it's on the level of 5850 for a lot more £.

gtx480 aimed at about the 5970?....not even close

+ the power consumption, noise and heat, so it is the junk category for me

HW_90: And a 125mhz overclock to the HD5850 gets it to that of an HD5870. Your point?

you also get 3D vision which I don't see coming from ATi any time soon and GTX 400 has an advantage when it comes to AA and DX11

Shouldn't really have taken the bait should I?
Anybody that buys something from nvidia by weighting 3d vision, even if only slightly, is never going to buy anything but. 3D vision is in my opinion purely an excuse, and not a reason

I can see 3d vision happening on ATI cards before nV surround on theirs. As for the AA advantage, if all of the Fermi's didn't lose ground on the ATI's at maximum resolution and only 8xAA then it might be worth something.

The main advantage for Fermi is in tesselation but no game uses it to be worthwhile and by the time games do use it effectively, ATI will have their new cards out.

Fermi is a poor series, the 465 the worst of the lot by some margin.

im not getting into a bitch slapping fight, i never do with the ati/intel fangirls, you buy what you want to and i chose a pair and excessive water cooling to overcome the heat and noise the same as i did with my gtx280

funny thing is the drivers work for the nvidia cards from the start

It is nothing to do with being a fan or not is it?? Many of use have owned as many Nvidia graphics cards as ATI ones.

People have their valid criticisms of the latest Nvidia efforts.

The ATI cards have gone up in price simply because Nvidia is not competitive enough in the sub £250 market.

They had plenty of time to make them work!

Having said that none of the AMD and Nvidia cards I have owned had any major issues issues with drivers under Windows in the last few years. The same goes with most of my friends too.

Perhaps its all those expensive cards which have the issues!!

    196.75... Nuff said.

There's a good reason why I consider drivers equal for both companies. Really, given 3D's needlessness and being offered by both parties, it's purely down to power, heat, noise, performance and price.

It will be good to see what price Aria will be doing these for.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
