the facts? now where is that lolcopter when its needed - gone from `no cards` to `small numbers` - doesnt mean a thing when you`ve been proven wrong. totally wrong.

    read the hexus link - the 5850 wasnt available for up to a month after launch;

you really should start posting in Red to suit your flavour

I bought a 5850 less than 2 weeks after launch, and I've just told everybody here that I'm happy for somebody from Scan to prove it.

Come back if you can find anybody who bought a Fermi within 2 weeks of launch, otherwise do yourself a favour and shut up.

ah, you just cant beat a good fanboy...

I'll admit, i used to be very into nvidia, but now im quite into AMD. Things change - it is irrelevant what has happened, it is more important what the cards are like now.

    People,

This began as good wholesome debate, but can we keep any slighting out of it, please?

Exclamation Re: Opinions - AMD vs. NVIDIA - who really won in HD 6850 and GTX 460 battle

The new 68XX series scale like hell in Crossfire. Much better than the previous generation. Who's better in SLI VS Crossfire? The 460 of the 6850?

From what I see, the 6850 in crossfire equal or even beat the ***470 SLI***!!! Forget about the 460 already! LOL

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...firex-review/7
    Bad company 2: 6850x2 75 fps vs 470x2 80 fps

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...irex-review/12
    Crysis warhead: 6850x2 68 fps vs 470x2 68 fps

    http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1445/12/
    starcraft 2: 6850x2 172,5 fps vs 470x2 147.2 fps

    newegg prices 6850x2 (cheapest)= 179.99 x2 = 360$
    newegg prices 470x2 (cheapest)= 259.99 x2 = 520$

I'm sorry, but that fact alone is f@cking embarrassing for Nvidia. The single 6850 is faster than the 460 in most instances and in crossfire, it annihilate the 470 SLI from a price/performance standpoint. I mean, the 470 SLI is totally outclassed here, no contest. 40% more expensive for the same or worse performance? LMAO...

And that doesn't end there: You can buy 2 X 6870 for 40$ less than 2 X 470 and it totally disintegrate the...480, for less money!!!!

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...ossFire/3.html
Alien VS Predator: 6870x2 65.4 fps vs 480 44.3 fps
    Metro 2033 : 6870x2 50.5 fps vs 480 39.6 fps

    newegg prices GTX 480 (cheapest)= 499.99$
    newegg price 6870x2 (cheapest)= 239.99$ X 2 = 479$

Unless you absolutely need CUDA, who the hell would be stupid enough to purchase a 460 under those circumstances? And why would they buy a 470 or even a 480 for that matter??? Money talk and AMD is shouting back a death sentence to Nvidia.

Now just wait for Cayman for the fatality move. Then, Imagine what the even mightier Antilles will do: Eating some pairs of 580 for breakfast, that's what it will do. Nvidia is so screwed (no wood screw punt intended here) it's not even funny anymore: They are checkmate from top to bottom like never before. Out of the chipset business, soon out of the lowest entry level dedicated GPU (Sandy Bridge and Fusion APU will take over), Tegra is still a mess and the Tesla business is way behind financial target and market penetration. Add to this no practical X86 licensing future and Nvidia will soon be grabbed, half dead, by the lowest bidder, from the sale bin. 3DFX anyone?? LOL. What a fitting end for an arrogant company such as Nvidia: Die the same shameful death as the former King of GPU they bought 8 years ago.

In other news: Jen-Hsun Huang jumped of a bridge...

On Anandtech, 470SLI wins 8 times, while 6850CF wins twice. In the case of the 6870, it's split right down the middle. Hardly the the picture you painted, from a performance perspective. Bang for buck is clearly on AMD's side, but everyone already knew that the 480/470 aren't great value anyway.

Your Guru3D links are broken BTW. In the interests of others, here is the link (http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...sfirex-review/). Let's do a quick count shall we: 470SLI wins 8 times over the 6850 (wins none). The 6870CF does wins 6 times over 470SLI (twice) in that behcmark suit.

From what I see, AMD deserves props for improving the scalability with the new card. However, your post would've been more persuasive if you'd stuck with the facts without the obviously pro AMD - anti nVidia undertones.

Guru3d also did not retest the GTX470 since june , and as has been pointed out , there has been 4 driver sets since then.

one reason why Tarinder did so much work - he redid every test.

    This^. Guru3D dun goof'd big time with they're review.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Opinions - AMD vs. NVIDIA - who really won in HD 6850 and GTX 460 battle

Reviewers can't be expected to rebench every time a new card comes out, that's absurd to expect that. Or do you two just think it should happen when AMD releases a card, so it can be new drivers vs mature nVidia ones?

Considering what nVidia got this time around - overclocked cards included in reviews (tomshardware even overclocked STOCK cards without mentioning it on the graphs), some idiot reviewers including HAWX 2 and nVidia bought "Stone Giant" and even Anandtech couldn't stick to their reviewing guns, I think they've got more than AMD has ever had in any review. If you think poor little nVidia is hard done to you need to take a long hard look at yourself.

And having a look around, there appears to now be a decent selection of 6850's and 6870's everywhere.

No reviewers cant be expected to rebench everything every time... but if they want the results to be taken seriously they should.

Reviews are used as a guide to how a product will perform in real life ssituations. In what case would you buy a card and then install older drivers on it. Only exception i can see is if you put the ones from the disk on there and then left it but i think most people who play these games are savvy enough to get round that.

So long as they are consistent is all that matters. ATI released a bunch of cards within a few months of each other last year, with different drivers for each one almost. They will probably do that in the next couple of months too.

I'll let you suggest to Tarinder that he should rebench the Cayman and Antilles releases with updated drivers - because you know any AMD fanboy will be expecting to see how the new drivers helped the 6800 cards. Do I expect him to? No, because that would be ridiculous after just doing it. Maybe if he had nothing else to do.

    It just doesn't make sense.

The HD6850 1GB has risen in price to 150 to 160 quid at most places so TBH the GTX460 1GB is looking much better value especially since it can be had for well under 150 quid.

As usual UK retailers and their suppliers jack up the price again.

    It just doesn't make sense.
But he will... im pretty sure hexus always do (on the specs grid the driver version is always listed) which is why they are my pretty much my number one trusted reviewer.
It doesnt matter how stupid it may sound it doesnt change the FACT that comparing cards running an older driver version again a newer card with a newer driver version is all but worthless UNLESS its explicitely obvious that the driver update contained no changes for the cards/benchmarks you are reviewing.
In this situation that isnt the case is it.

Im pretty sure this is fundementals learned in GCSE science about controlled experiments.
