Reviews - Need for Speed: The Run

The cars are hot, the racing is intense, but what about the gameplay?

    Sad really.

The WII/3DS version is actually a better game.

Re: Reviews - Need for Speed: The Run

My main gripe with the game was that the storyline was over in a little over 2 hours for me and it even kept a tab on my total time for me (you start off with 5mins ish on the clock) my total race time was 2hrs 11mins at an average of something like 137mph which i make it a 300mile race not 3000 mile.

most races you spent most of the time at vmax dodging slow traffic.

the variable surface grip is really nice but so rarely used,
the cars were a bit meh and it still suffers the age old need for speed problem of ai being unrealisticly fast. i could be at vmax in a zonda (220+mph) and get overtaken by a crown vic police car or a mob suv

Mindless NFS style romp with physics that defy reality.

If anything it's like NFS on the old PS1. Crap gfx but a hoot to play.

EA disappointed me hugely with NFS Undercover and since then I decided to never buy another NFS game. Guess, I am pirating this!

NFSHP was rubbish, graphically superb, but gameplay-wise was terrible.

Anyone remeber the gold standard - NFS Most Wanted? Now that was some game!

NFS : HP 2 is still by far the best need for speed.

No customisation, no crap. Just old skool arcade racing where you keep the loud pedal stick to the floor.

Re: Reviews - Need for Speed: The Run

I'm guessing both you and the reviewer must have played Hot Pursuit on a console as you seemed to like it and he called it "stellar"

The PC version was utter crap. Virtually impossible to play using a wheel and not that good with a controller. Very pretty but no fun at all to play. I was foolish enough to ask for it for Christmas last year. I struggled with it for a couple of hours and it's sat untouched on my shelf ever since.

I'm with OilSheikh, I keep on going back to Most Wanted. As far as I'm concerned the last NfS game that's worth playing. My copy is sitting on my desk as I type this.

I'm not even going to bother getting an "extended demo" of this one to see if I like it. They show their disdain for the PC platform. They haven't even released an official demo for it. Only xBox and PS3 unless someone can show me different

Most wanted was appalling. Terrible rubber banded AI and corner on a six-pence handling. Even Underground 2 was better.

Re: Reviews - Need for Speed: The Run

well I've played NFS Run on PC, and it is true it is capped at 30fps even when using GTX 570 it doesn't push the fps at all. I've even gone to the extent to try and find the .inf to edit the fps limits. Apart from that overall imo very arcadey similar to NFS Hot Pursuit except the more real to life controls especially when trying to make a 90 degree handbrake turn. Doesn't really fit with the whole ethos of NFS.

Any NFS fans that liked NFS most wanted or NFS carbon should consider playing the MMO free to play on PC. Much more entertaining more customisation, free roam, hot pursuits and team pursuit chases.

If you are looking for real-life like driving mechanisms and techniques being replicated, NFS isn't the game. Best get Gran Turismo!

NFSMW had the best story and was seriously enjoyable. Battling against herds of police cars , trying to invent new tactics - it was just amazing.

NFS World? It's terrible! You can only level up to a certain level before you need to pay to upgrade your car's features. The police were also not at all heavy handed like in NFSMW.
