Their HD7970 Ghz it's what you should looking for, you are upgrading from a GTX570, not a 590. Why you think in getting this?

the c3d was just for fun. I wouldn't mind owning either one of them as long as I don't have to pay for it. If I have to pay for something it better be worth it and not have issues that should have been addressed by now. And tomshardware.com and hardwarecanucks actually did do the FCAT tests and you can see the difference there. Anandtech has encountered issues with FCAT, software wise, not that it isn't reliable and I expect to see them same results from them: where the reported frames are higher compared to actual frames and this card falling behind GTX 690 and GTX 680 SLI.

But it wouldn't take the OpenCL (or CUDA) path anyway unless the game specifically called for it in that way?

    If you look carefully:
techpower up is using VERY HIGH settings with 4x AA
hexus are using HIGH settings with 4x AA
bit-tech are using VERY HIGH with AA disabled

I'm assuming that as the AA is increased then the 7990 will have a slight edge due to the 6GB memory.

Technically Intel invented it (morpholigical antialiasing), AMD were the first to implement it (MLAA), and nVidia just refined it (as FXAA)

Best refinement of the process is SMAA IMHO (crytek guy?)

It should be completely vendor agnostic - the algorithms are quite open and as mentioned solely rely on post-process pixel shaders, no compute or advanced stuff needed.

erm MLAA uses directcompute and FXAA uses CUDA (let me get the links , but in the pdf from nv it says as much about FXAA) - anyway tim lottes has patented FXAA for nv so its not done by intel.

    MLAA is sony (patent 2011)

As i've already said, i really don't think this is the case, although it could be if it was "accelerated" (admittedly, i'm not a software engineer by any strethc). There are plenty of DX9 games where MLAA/FXAA etc are used that don't have any Directcompute 'layers'.

As for MLAA, it was used in God of War 3, which was 2010.

I never disputed that, i was just pointing out it was used "first" in 2010 at the latest.

Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon HD 7990 6GB

aye by sony who then went on to patent it - and leased it to AMD...

who now uses it via directcompute

    btw

    genuine question for the OP

the 13.4`s out (and WHQL) and have been for a while

    so why use older drivers?

I'm more worried what this suggests about the delays to the 8000 and 700 series of each side, I'm still rocking a 6970 as the 7970 wasn't a big enough upgrade for the stupid price they were asking for.
Quit posturing AMD and get on with releasing the 8000 series already!

Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon HD 7990 6GB

WAY to late for the game.

The GTX 690 is a far more refined & mature card.

Stick with the 7850/7970 for best deals with regards to AMD...

It shouldn't affect the release of the 700 series:

AMD fan here and I hate to see AMD struggling with such nonsense hardware, they lost the track and innovation.

I think the Nvid 690 is a Clear winner.

Shame I was enjoying the AMD.
