Oh and in Far Cry where the 780 only offers 20% extra performance, power draw is 20% less overall.

AMD have purposefully chosen not to compete on efficiency with Tahiti vs Kepler.

Re: Reviews - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

Nobody is saying it doesn't have better perf/Watt than the GHz edition but it's not that amazing. A lot more troublesome should be the horrific perf/£ in comparison and review sites should be slaughtering Nvidia for trying to get away with their ridiculous prices.

The 7970 GHz is so much better value than the 780 it's a joke. This card should have been £400 max.

And anyway, if we stick to BF3 numbers the 780 uses 7% more power but adds 34% more performance.
Or 39% more at 1080p but that seems a waste of the extra power tbh.
34% more performance for 85% more money

Yeah and guess what the 7950 is better value than the 7970 and the 660 is better value again.

The cheaper you go the more bang for buck you get, but some people want more performance, they want the best.

    What is you point?
Yeah maybe VI will beat Kepler on efficiency, who knows, there's always something better round the corner.

Yeah and I'll bet these same people didn't want the 7970 GHz edition when it was the best.

This is exactly what Nvidia fanboys have been doing - waiting a year to get 20% better performance and paying ~£250 more. It's ridiculous that the review sites aren't pointing this out.

    simples:

AMD have purposefully chosen not to compete on efficiency with Tahiti vs Kepler.

why should they compete with 18 month old hardware against the latest and greatest from NVidia? the new AMD range will do that

Re: Reviews - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

Wow!!! The performance of is mind blowing. I expected it to perform better than the GTX 680, which its going to replace, but i didn't expect it to be so close to a Titan. More than that, Nvidia priced it at a good point. Cudos to Nvidia!!. Lets see if AMD can bring out a new card that can top Nvidia and their GTX 780 in single GPU cards.

It's ridiculous to suggest that only Nvidia 'fanboys' are going to buy this card. Many people buying this card are probably on older hardware. Take darrensen for instance, he is upgrading from a 570, so that's more like double the performance. And he was actively considering AMD cards as well so don't do him the disservice of calling him a fanboy.

Why are you so keen to do the card down? You are having a go at Nvidia 'fanboys' but you don't seem to be taking a very objective stance yourself.

Erm Kepler isn't the latest and greatest either. Kepler has had the efficiency lead for the last year and more.

Double the performance for near double the price. Or he could have had a GHz edition a year ago which would be 80% more performance for the same kind of price he paid for his 570? This is what is wrong with it - a completely irrationality when it comes to value all because one of the cards has an Nvidia sticker on it.

Why are you so keen to do the card down? You are having a go at Nvidia 'fanboys' but you don't seem to be taking a very objective stance yourself.
The card is offensively priced. Nvidia has increased performance by 23% from the 580-680, then 27% from the 680-780 (going by techpowerup's reviews), charged $500 first time then $650 second time in a year, and reviewers around the world are buying into it like they are all some kind of wonder cards. What the hell is Nvidia doing to get away with this?

Re: Reviews - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

But a year ago the 7970GE was so much worse than today, it was far more expensive, had useless drivers and no game bundle.

Is it really wrong to wait for a card that can actually double performance?

The 780 is 65% faster than the 580, has twice the VRAM, is quieter and is 75% more power efficient. (techpowerup)
    Sounds pretty good to me.
