Re: Reviews - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

I don't see the whats the hype for over £549, I can see it's good value over a TITAN but the price of that was silly money for playing games !

Don't get me wrong I love one just like TITAN but no way will I pay this ! Makes no sense to me for what a HD7970 can do, if this was a £400+ card I'd say OK its good value over the last gen but an extra £150+ & what the HD 7970 can do ? AMD must be LOL...

Can't wait to see what they have to offer ?

AMD might be laughing a little harder if they were actually making a profit on their graphics cards.

Mind you things seem to be shaping up quite nicely for the next generation and a few high profile hirings.

20% faster than the £325 7970 GHz edition, with worse noise and power draw? Then you throw how many games on top for the GHz edition and it's a no brainer. How Hexus can declare this as the "favourite high-end card" is beyond me.
It depends what you want really, for me I run a 1440p screen and like to turn everything up, a 7970 wont allow me to do this on a lot of newer games but the 780 would, therefore its a no brainier as you put it that if I can afford it I go for the faster 780.

I cant understand why you have a issue with there conclusion, they have said that price is a negative.

yeah but at 1440p it doesnt get a solid 60fps on all games.

I think its overpriced for what it is but people will complain and then buy it anyway, I am sticking with my 7950's at 1440p they rock

Re: Reviews - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

How does this compare to the 690gtx? Considering that the 690gtx is virtually 2 670's in SLI, the 690 GTX should still topple all of them for a fraction less of the price of the titan?

Re: Reviews - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

True but its as close as you will get with a single card unless you go with a Titan.

Thats like saying a Golf GTI is way over priced because it only goes xxx faster than a standard Golf, people will pay because they want that level of performance, same thing here.

Come back to me with figures for manufacturing costs / research costs on the cards and a over all cost price to Nvidia and then we can have a discussion on how overpriced the card actually is

According to this review the 780 is exactly 5% faster than the 7970 GHz edition at 2560x1600.

I cant understand why you have a issue with there conclusion, they have said that price is a negative.
Shouldn't the price count towards the overall conclusion? How can 5% faster be worth paying another £250 and losing out on 4 recent AAA free games?

Your comment made me go look at AMDs Q1 reports. They're not good at all...
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

No they aren't, but AMD swear they have a plan that will return them to profit.

My point was, if you want the fastest you have to pay for it, as the tech becomes more complex the price does not scale in a liner fashion.

If a 7970 is fine for your needs then go for it, if you need to have the fastest then you need to look at spending more money.

You don't have to pay for it, you only have to pay for it when it's an Nvidia card that is fastest.

The 7970 GHz edition was the worlds fastest single-gpu card for almost 9 months last year and it cost less than the 680 from launch.

Nvidia gets away with overpricing their cards because they are Nvidia, no other reason.

This can't be done but there is still a discussion to be had ... You've got to admit the price is a little overwhelming considering what most gamers are paid, I would be sweating like mad looking at it in Scan's basket !...

    Eh?
The 7970GE was only released in June. What's more it only tied the 680 until 12.11 was released in late October. So that's 2 and a bit months.

If we go back to the orginal 7970 the launch price was $549.
Original 680 launch price was $499.
7970GE launch price was also $499.

So are you sure that's it is only Nvidia that sell expensive cards?

People were complaining about the launch price of the HD7970 anyway,so TBH considering the GTX780 is even more expensive,it is fair game too.
