    Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon R9 290X

MaxPC had an interesting part in their article where they tested the high running temp claim, and ran the Heaven 4.0 benchmark for 3 straight days, to come back and find the card running fine at 94. They also mentioned they had not had a hiccup during the whole testing process.

Perhaps everyone ought to wait for the R9 290 (non-X)? I'd hazard that would be a better bet at £350.

Thats out on the 31st? (according to the leak)

Great tip; usually the 'second rung' card is the best deal.

    Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon R9 290X

The power draw will stop me from ever getting this card. The heat is disappointing as well but at least something can be done about that.

It just seems like they are pumping more electric in to this card than the last generation cards which is giving it the performance increase. Which doesn't sound like they have put much effort in to be honest.

It's really nice to see high end graphic card price's coming back down to more sensible levels. Well done AMD. Take note Nvidia.

Too hot and too hungry, but kudos to AMD for the performance at that price point - it should drive down the prices for the 780. Competition for the win.

    Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon R9 290X

It's certainly a great card taking into account price - performance against the competition. I can't see the 95c being a problem with reliability either - it's more a case of whether you want that sort of heat in your case (with after-market solutions) or in your room.

I won't be purchasing one though, it's disappointing to see that in 2 years since the 7970 we've moved at a snails pace really. I know we can't expect a quantum leap until we are safely on 20nm and to be fair the games market hasn't required the extra power but I still feel disappointed that there is no reason to replace my 7970 - as everyone likes fiddling with new hardware right?

Maybe I'm just getting old and remember the 9800 - x800 generation gaps of close to 100%, which IIRC was a refresh of existing tech just turned up to 11.

    Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon R9 290X

Look at this Newegg listing for the R9 290:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&SID=u00000687

It says a Windforce cooler is used,so I wonder if the R9 290 will come with third party coolers from launch??

I read on another forum that R9 290X cards with third party coolers should be out in December.
