Re: Reviews - Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB

To be frank I'm somewhat underwhelmed, as like someone said above I was expecting stock performance more in line with the overclocked results. Not that it matters much, since I would never spend $1000 on a video card.

Still, once the R390X and GTX980Ti are both out it'll be interesting to see where the prices end up and how the performance metrics compare. At that point I guess it might be time to get rid of my new GTX970 (thanks a bunch Nvidia...) and get a new, decent card and a 4K screen.

Re: Reviews - Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB

Nvidia's had a double precision capability since the 4 or 5xx series ,I read. I do know exactly what that means other than it being a feature-but to read it is lacking in this $1,000 flagship does make me wonder. This is a very interesting article, even though the Titan X seemed to run rings around all the AMD and older cousins from Nvidia.
For all that money on the 'reference' model, though , bragging rights appear to be its only real value. OC results show how much it has been leashed in and within a month or so, the real powerful X versions will be on the market. I couldnt spend that much for a base thousand buck or pound item even though it is efficient and powerful as is. I know some people will be able to get it, use it for a month or so, then be able to turn it over when the partner's modified versions hit the market. Or, just trade it in as they bump up in the summer

Think after seeing the reviews on it I'll be sticking to 970Sli. Quicker and cheaper

I'd like to have seen more games. I only play one of the games you have benchmarked.

It'd be nice to see far cry 4 and maybe Battlefield 4.

Well I got a 295x2 for 670$ 4 month ago, and it still outperforms the titan X. Should Nvidia lower considerably the price ? YES.

Does NVIDIA's marketing department bases the campaign on hype? YES

Re: Reviews - Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB

    Haahaha

just read that there is no double precision. So you buy a card solely for games. No math work possible with this card.

No thanks....unbelievable. Of course biology labs do not have funds to buy a TESLA. the 690 was doing a more than acceptable job at that (CUDA). Now though NVIDIA lost many possible customers.

I believe now more than ever development in openCL will be put into high gear and we will finally ditch CUDA. Thank you NVIDIA

Their marketing department as it seems is feeling secure that many scientists know to develop in CUDA and they will not do a jump. I believe the opposite.

Re: Reviews - Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB

It feels nVidia are just taking the pee out of us now. I was semi-miffed at the 970 controversy, I know for business reasons etc. it doesn't make sense to truly trounce the competition (and your own products) when you can instead hold something back and keep it tighter, and have something to release in case they surprise you.

And I was semi-miffed when I heard it would be more like a 33% improvement over the current cream of the crop, instead of the closer to 50% increase the Titan was over the 680, because they have to worry about the 390x, and leave room for a Titan X White Y Grey SuperHappyTime version.

But to still charge $1000 even though they are keeping the DP performance low, this is just too far. The whole reasoning for the high price tag was you were getting a card that was not only a beast of a gaming card, but it would hold its own as a workstation card too, as long as you didn't need the full Quadro service. Now it is nothing more than a high end card, a halo product...that isn't actually that good!

When it comes down to it, you're paying 250% the cost for 33% more performance, and that is disgusting. Don't even bring RAM into it, it's not only super cheap and in no way a justification for the cost, but in fact is useless, because NO GAMER WILL EVER NEED THAT MUCH, IT WAS THE FLIM FLAMMING WORKSTATION CROWD WHO NEEDING THAT FLIM FLAMMING AMOUNT OF FLOOMING RAM YOU FLUPPERS!

This feels like a big juicy gob of spit in our faces. I know most people bought these purely for the gaming option and didn't use the DP capability, but that's not the point - it was WORTH the $999 price tag. This simply is not, not in the slightest. $650, $750 tops because it's the best, after all..but $999 ? Not in this lifetime.

I've not had an AMD card since way back in the days of ATi, I am well and truly part of the nVidia crowd, even when they had a better card I'd wait for the green team reply. But this is actually insulting to consumers.

I was never gonna buy one of these, I was waiting on the 980Ti for the 384bit bus and the bumps that come along with it...but now I'm not only hoping the 390x is better than people say because then nVidia will have to make it extra good..I'm hoping it's better than they say so I can actually buy it.

For shame nVidia, what you're doing with this card is unforgivable

Re: Reviews - Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB

Apart from lacking full-speed DP, it's pretty much what I expected. A bit odd that they have gone for a full-on gaming card this time around for Titan.....almost seems like the Titan name is nothing more than a excuse to slap a hideous price tag on a card.

To fully utilise the 12GB, your probably going to need 2-3 titans to SLI them while doing some hideous 4k multi-monitor gaming.

It looks like there isn't much else to be done on this process now.....I think it's now time for me to grab a second 780 (or 780Ti) and wait until the new processes come out.....Looking forward to Pascal

Rumour has is that the 390X will end up ~60% faster than the 290X... From this reviews figures, that places it roughly at parity with the Titan X, which should hopefully force Titan pricing downwards, from bat-sh*t crazy to ridiculous

How much are kidneys going for these days anyway...

I doubt it - the 980ti will be the competitor for the 390X. Titan pricing isn't really tied to performance.

I was surprised by the lack of DP too, then I saw the info about the Quadro m6000 lacking it too which is even more shocking (maybe it is maxwell being too big after all) as it would actually make it worse than the k6000 in some respects. I'm now curious to what price the quadro m6000 is going to be because at present it is literally the same as the titan x maybe with ecc ram so it's going to be hard to justify a likely price 3x higher than the titan x....

I'd argue the 12GB is more for gpu rendering and the likes, that could easily hit 12GB in larger scenes.

I don't really understand the Titan branding without the double precision. I mean to be honest I never really understood why they thought they could get away with the price tag for 'gaming grade' hardware anyway but this really is just an excuse to double the price as far as I can see.

Rumours suggest the Quadro M6000 won't have faster double-precision support - so GTX Titan X is the best consumer product Nvidia can offer.
