    £600? 1080p and no touch?

Ok, posh processor and SSD, but still. Knock another hundred off and I would be tempted, but to call this 'keen' pricing seems giving it a bit too much

May be tempted. After a ~£600 laptop around December.
Hexus, tempted to do an article on current recommendations?

600 is for the base config.
The tested one is much much more expensive

    Cheers.

Might be launch price, if you follow the Hexus link you can buy the review spec Lafité II for £599.

Base model is £412; if you configure base model to review spec it comes to £695.

Impressive spec for the launch price, not so good when it goes up to 'real' price though...

The review of the PC Specialist Mortis was much the same - the system was briefly available at the review price, then went up when the review system became "no longer available to order". Maybe Hexus should start configuring these systems using the supplier's web site and listing the price as that more generally advertised?

    Re: PC Specialist Lafité II

I bought an original model Lafite a little while ago, just before the Lafite II was announced. My budget was £600 and despite much research I couldn't find anything to touch it at that price point. The discounted review model really is a bargain - I had to settle for and i5 and a 120Gb SSD + 50Gb HDD to stay within budget.

The review is I think a fair summary of the Lafite's strengths and weaknesses. The oddly placed power key is an unwelcome feature shared with other laptops e.g. the UX305. The display is great, and I like the keyboard. The speakers are too quiet for my liking. The worst feature is the touchpad, though it seems this has actually improved with the Lafite II with a change of manufacturer.

By the way, the chassis is the Topstar U731, which is also used as the basis of the Chillblast Helios.

Simply untrue. Click though on the link at the end of the article and purchase.
