Isn't this one of the motherboards that qualifies for the free USB 3.1 bay at the moment?
If so should this be taken into consider as part of the review as you mark it down for no front USB 3.1 support but this gives that to you for no extra outlay?
It does look nice. I really liked Gigabyte's Z170 Gaming 7 as well.
for cons it say it lacks WiFi... come on... no one that want to game online want to rely on WiFi... anyhow it looks like a really good board though... as for USB 3.1, front or backside, it does not really matter other than it is easier to conceal the cables if it is on the back.
Looks very nice. Might need to add it to my ancient Beautiful hardware thread.
I've had absolutely zero issues gaming over 802.11ac WiFi and get a constant 867Mbps connection to the router... Even pinging the router in the next room only shows 1ms latency! I never had issues gaming over 802.11n with a 300Mbps link either.I prefer it to having cables everywhere linking my devices .
Whilst it looks swish, I'm not sure I could bring myself to buy another Gigabyte. I've currently got an X99-UD4 and it's simply not stable. I've had numerous custom BIOS' from Gigabyte to try and resolve stability issues, but it's just plagued with bugs and compatibility issues.
I feel that Gigabyte, and many of the other motherboard manufacturers have a too wide product range and just can't provide a suitable level of quality assurance for their products.
I'm currently contemplating getting another X99 board and just binning my current Gigabyte one.
Hats off to Gigabyte support though for being easy to contact at a technical level and at least trying to resolve the problem. Many manufacturers aren't this easy to deal with.
Whilst I do agree with others regarding the wifi and gaming (meaning that gaming performance is usually stable via wifi these days), I'm still not sure that I would have marked it as a con that the board doesn't have onboard wifi. I normally use a real sound card instead of onboard and have still never had an issue finding room for a wifi card if needed (and I always run 2xGPU setups, as well)
