    ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 SLI S939 Motherboard

There are cheaper boards currently available that carry the same feature-set as the Fatal1ty AN8 SLI, but no other board, we feel, is designed to meet the needs of the enthusiast as well as the Fatal1ty line. The SLI version costs around £25 more than the standard S939 Fatal1ty. That extra outlay is compensated by, obviously, SLI compatibility, greater VDIMM, and more generous bundle.

Think carefully about what you want from a S939 board. If it's features above all else, look elsewhere, frankly. If it's the promise of sky-high overclocks and care and attention paid to cooling and tweaking, the ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 SLI is hard to beat. Recommended to the enthusiast/gamer.

    Nice review.

The where2buy link is for the regular AN8 SLi though not the Fatality.

Not by my reckoning, unless somebody else updated between you posting and me checking it.

edit: Well shiver me timbers it was that Mr. Dutton!

Good review. It does seem like an oversight to not include the ram cooler considering the new ram voltage's.

The other problem I can see with the newer chipset placemtn is the use of nortbridge water cooling like the Danger den maze 4 that I use. I cant see the possiblility of using it with any full size card in it without some major playing about with placement and pipework

Only comes standard with the Fatality SLi.
The existing uGuru Clock is ~£12-16 but I think that the panel may be slightly more when it shows up.

    Hi guys,

just wondered if any of few have overcome a nasty problem with Crucial Ram DDr500 and this board? using an FX55 cpu.

My system is unstable and I am using By SPD for the ram timings.

    Any ideas anyone.

Run Memtest86+ on it and see what you get.

    Hi,

I have done a number of test.

Each module in single mode, then dual chann in dimm1+2 and dimm3+4, all of which failed at test 5 instantly. (Block move test)

I am thinking their is a problem with the motherboard as I have set all the latencies to exactly as specified on crucial's ballistix subsite. I have also increased the voltage as stated on the site, all of which makes no difference.

Full spec is as follows in case someone can shed some light:

    Abit AN8 Fatal1ty SLi
    AMD FX-55 "San Diego"
2x XFX7800GTX in SLi mode (this makes no difference also - switching between sli and non in both software and hardware)
    2x 1GB Ballistix Tracers
    1x Raptor 36GB SATA
2x Raptor 72GB SATA in RAID stripe configuration
    1x Plextor DVD Writer SATA
Hiper PSU 550Watt with 630Watt spike capacity

    Any ideas?

Try updating to BIOS16 & see if that makes any difference.

It could be that the processor's memory controller isn't up to the job. What speed are you actually running them at, DDR400 or DDR500? Is the command rate set at 2T?

if he has them at SPD they should be at DDR500 (the AN8 has the new 233 & 250 dividers enabled on Rev. E) unless he has upped the ref. clock.

Could be his problem then, the higher speeds are still an undocumented feature AFAIK and I doubt AMD guarantee that they work, especially with 2x1GB. The first thing I'd try would be setting the command rate to 2T if it's not already.

Yeah I would be trying manual memory settings incl. setting 400 (although 433 worked with my 3700EB)
