If tis happens you sell the card on flebay for £200- presumably someonw with the idea of soft modding it pocket the profit and buy another. The current batch has a 70% succes rate which isnt too bad still risky though

I looked at some of the UK places you can get this card. It's being sold for about 165.00 british pounds. With exchange rate, that's currently about $275.00 us dollars. How is that a good deal, when you can buy a 9700 all-in-wonder for the same or cheaper. That's also guaranteed performance...not having to worry whether a soft-mod will work.

Or am I missing something here?

Rad 9800 pro is about $370($220) and more usually in UK.

I got my 9800SE AIW for £144($239) but they WERE much cheaper than this, around £127($211) before the mod was found.

Hardware is much cheaper in the states, you lucky people.

Install Catalyst 3.9 from http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-...8m-011774c.exe

The important file is Ati2mtag.sys http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/ati2mtag.11774.zip You can either copy this to C:\windows\system32\drivers\ OR copy it in C:\Ati\support\?? Can't remember now! and install the drivers a second time.

Bought one, modded it and doesn't work, crashes on login to win2k, vpu is reset and machine goes into software rendering, used cat 3.9 hot fix drivers and softmodded, and cat 3.8. Seems like the four extra pipes are gone, what now Booh Hoo!!

Where did you get it from mate? I got mine from http://www.lowestonweb.com/Index.asp...E-4B0C51BAB736 for £144 but they've now gone up to £157

Mine has modded perfectly but thats not to say they all will from there. I'm not sure if anywhere sells them that are guaranteed to mod though.

no1 in the UK garantues it, however scan.co.uk do the herc at 160, should be fine to soft mod

This is my first post and may earn fool of the year award.
I am a mature guy retired early on health grounds
Newish to putors and my thing was using WinTV to turn VHS into stills and VCD.When it blew up I saw the review and wanted.But I could have made big mess.I bought it second hand from a guy who claimed it wasnt compat with his motherboard
He got it from overclockers (fear factor coming in )
And from recents posts I beginning to wonder if he tried a softmod and blew its brains out.
I cant get to it run and set it up and some odd things are happening on my system
I live in South London and what I need is a miracle some pratical and physical help or someone to take it off me give it a good workout
At least that would tell me where I stand .Benefits dont run to using so called Computor repair shops
