I could eat sweet chilli sauce with EVERYTHING (seriously!) it's the only "spicy" thing i'll allow into my mouth - i generally dont eat chilli in anything, but sweet chilli sauce is the food of gods.

Tried Lingham's chilli sauce then Elmo? Tiz one of the nicest sweet chilli sauces around imo. Can get it in most Tesco's.

i make my own sweet chili sauce.

15 chillies (or as many as you can handle)
half a cup of cider vinegar
half a cup of brown sugar
    2 teaspoons of white sugar
    2 tins of tomatoes
    small bottle of tomatoe ketchup

blend it all together then bring to the boil and simmer for 30-40 mins then bottle.

Hmmm, I was looking at all these spicy sauces the other day. Was tempted by a few. What do you actually do with them though? Use them mainly as dips, or marinades or something else!? I guess you could put them in a chilli or something like that?

    Re: Favourite Chilli Sauce

Hope you don't mind me dragging up an ANCIENT thread but being a relative newbie to hot / chilli sauces i only just found it.

Anyway i have only really recently discovered the world of hot / chilli sauces as a mate got me a bottle of "Da Bomb: - Beyond insanity" for christmas and i have to say it was great, couple of small dolops in a home made chilli went down a treat so i got the whole set comprising of, including the bottle i got for Christmas.

    In order of strength.

Da Bomb: - Beyond insanity (120k on the scoville scale)
Da Bomb: - Ground Zero (235K on the scoville scale)
Da Bomb: - The Final Answer (1,500,000 on the scoville scale)

I don't know if any one on here has tried them but the first two are very nice, just be careful not to over do it they will make you sweat to put it mildly, the last one is just nuts as it is more than 10x stronger than the first one i got, a drop on the end of a cocktail stick is plenty and try it neat at you own risk, i did and it made my eyes water and my nose stream

    I got them from here,

    Re: Favourite Chilli Sauce

So many chili and chilli threads to choose to wake up.
Came across something quite unusual last night.
Restaurateur very oddly said that he wanted to try something out on a customer.
He took out an industrial looking glass vial and told me that it contained Rwandan chilli oil extract of habanero that a Belgian friend had sourced for him - sounded bit blood diamond to me - and placed a couple of drops on my food.
Anyway, the end result is that he seemed to be very disappointed that he hadn't blown my head off. He left the vial and I put quite a few drops on a few chips, with little effect.
Then as parts of mouth and lips started to go a bit numb, I remembered that habenero works wrong for me - I am not a brave chilli eater, quite the wimpy opposite, but I do try most things - it seems that I can eat stupid amounts of habenero without suffering hardly at all, except for some slight temporary numbness.
But eating a single not-habanero chilli in a curry can totally mess me up, usually to the point that I can't eat anything after the chilli.
Might still get a bottle, as recently I had poached eggs on mashed avocado on toast with chilli oil and the chilli oil made it really superb.

    Re: Favourite Chilli Sauce

    Holy Thread Revival.

Is this the longest continuously operating forum in the UK? Hmm.

Anyway, my fave (though I eat a fair bit of rice) is the Chinese Chilli sauce, which comes in a jar and often contains Shrimp/Prawn. I believe they call it Prawn Balichao (sp.). It's delish, and quite strong.

The prawn one and the standard Chinese one may be distinct, they are both good, but the dry prawns in chilli oil are very very tasty.

Found this stuff living in NZ, best stuff ever. No sweet nonsense just tasty firey goodness. Stocks I came back with running a bit low though

Edit: Wow, didn't realise this one had been dug up from the depths.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.
