....though I don't drink tea so I must be safe
I don't drink much tea but when I do, it's black, just as I prefer my coffee.
70c sounds pretty bloody hot though.
Nail on the head. this is one study, the media love things like this any thing for a bit of scandel. I love it "experts say" that is such a vague line
Anyway, I would be more worried about the aluminium Tea (Camellia sinensis) is an aluminium hyper-accumulator, aluminium is a toxic element, the tea plant is adapted to living in soil that is full of it and it disposes of it through its leaves (vacuoles most likely, its been years since I did any serious plant physiology). Unfortunately this adaption means that it doesn't matter what soil you put it in it will suck out all the aluminium... and aluminium has been linked to alzheimers disease. But again one study, so wait for more studies then decide.

Likewise... the media love it, how many times have we been told chocolate is bad for us only to be told the follow week that its good for us?

i think too much emphasism been placed on the tea part..... the hot part is the important thing to note. anything thats eaten and is too hot can damage the lining of the osephagus which means that it has to repair itself more often than necessary. cancer is the uncontrollable growth of cells, and so if your cells are having to regrow more often then there's more chance of cancerous cells developing.
My osephagus and digestive tracts knackered anyway so I'm not to bothered. I'm lucky if I can go for 3 days without mine bleeding and being painful at the moment.
What's going to be the cancer causing agent next week?
Salads due to their residual pesticides?
Burnt chips?
I think I want to live in a bubble lol
Not many people have tea without milk anyway. Although interestingly (or not) I read something about the great health benefits of tea as an antioxidant, but apparently adding milk eliminates the benefits.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6241139.stm
So either way just ignore the endless news about what causes cancer, have some common sense and don't down big gulps of burning liquid!
