Dog, Horse, Squirrel, Sheep's eyes, Prairie Oysters, Frogs Legs, Baked Scorpion are all memorable for one reason or another...
When in the Philippines I had a delicacy called "balut" - this was a chicken egg, but with a chicken foetus in, rather than a yolk. If that hasn't put you off, read the wiki on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balut_(egg)
It was vile.
It made the horse penis soup seem palatable in comparison.
I've had ostrich ham, kudu and springbok but thats about it nothing too odd
Shark Fin Soup - Enjoyable.
Sea Snails - Very Nice
Limpets - Very Nice
Snail - Ok, as long as you block your mind about exactly what you are eating.
I once drank a cup of chilli sauce after too many beers and too many dares. It was pretty bad going down (thankfully I was too drunk to really remember that part) but the next day...
When a woman says "Men can never understand the pain of childbirth" I have to pipe in and say "Actually, I think I've got a pretty good idea". I was literally bracing myself on the side of the cubicle to keep myself upright, I nearly fainted several times and I think I could run a marathon and sweat less.
We got my friend to drink a cup of chilli sauce which contains an extract 4x hotter than the hottest chilli in. He went bright red, then sweated loads, then felt his stomach burning, then threw up and it came out of his nose so his nose was burning then the force of his vomitting caused it to splash back into his eyes which then were also burning. The next day he spent about an hour on the toilet and we could just hear him groaning. Definately worth the £5 we promised him.
Chilli ice cream.
Tastes like mint ice cream to start with, then as it melts in your mouth you start to taste the chilli and it goes hot. Very strange.
That does sound odd, I really want to try some now.
Well I'm not sure it's "strange", exactly, but at least to me, the most unconventional was sashimi. I'm not a sushi fan, but I go out of my way to avoid sashimi. I'm a great fan of many Japanese dishes, and my time in Kyoto led to one of my all-time favourites and one of my all-time worst. The worst was sashimi .... served in a very traditional way, at a top class geisha house. Great evening, apart from the food. The best ..... Kobe beef sukiyaki, in a restaurant also in Kyoto.
Had frogs legs when I was a child (on a TV show called freeze frame back in the 80s!)....lambs heart I also had as a kid......more recently I tried chicken feet while I was in Hong Kong.
All pretty tame compared to some of you
