I quite like eating bbq food bit by bit once it's ready, so if the steak DOES go on first, no need to keep it warm, or reheat(!) it, just... EAT IT!!! Then carry on and cook a bit more of something else
That's just me tho... constantly munching on food

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

Steak should always be last - only takes 6-8 mins for a nice bit of filet or rib

Sauages first on a medium heat, then chicken, then pork - then the veggies (depending on type - i.e butternut squash for about 15 mins on medium-low heat) finally steak!

Nice long pair of tongs for use during the cooking, another couple of shorter pairs for serving. I got a great silicone basting brush from NZ, which is great for basting the meat (ooo err!) - chemically inert, and quick to rinse off - no danger of contamination - just rinse in hot/boiling water between meats.

You could also keep a large glass of hot water to keep your basting brush in just to rinse.
Grill temp will be around 200 deg C for most of the cooking time so bacteria are less of an issue. Provided you don't do something exceptionally stupid, like baste just when taking meat off the grill, you should be pretty safe.
Also - ensure that all meats exept chicken are at room temp before going on the grill.
I got pretty bad food poisoning on saturday after I was assured that the chicken hadn't been frozen - it had. Chicken should be safely refrigerated - or preferably pre-cooked for safety.
If you can lower the heat, and cook items for longer, invariably you (and your guests) will be better off!

Does anyone else "sacrifice" something on it?

I do.....a cheap sausage or a bit of bacon.

Put it on, let it drip and flame..and let it burn.

    Sacrifice to the BBQ Gods...

I really do this...so no laughing

I know...but years ago I realised that what ever went on FIRST always got nuked...

SO....I sacrifice the first thing....and as it goes...the BBQ cooks better with the fat from the first banger.

IF I BBQ for my entire family Sair's family or mates...I ALWAYS NUKE A FEW SNAGGERS first....

    *shrugs*

seems the right thing to do...

mmm - did a great one yesterday - bratwurst in beer, onions and peppers!
very simple - get some bratwurst, half cook it on one side only - chuck it into a tinfoil pan (even bbq safe pre-heated oven dish will do) with the contents of a bottle of beer, one large minced onion (diced may work better for hot dog purposes!) half a diced green pepper - depending on number of wurst! I did 2 onions and one whole pepper with 15 wurst.
cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, an in the meantime cook some petit pains in the oven for serving with the wurst.
Everyone was quite impressed and surprised! Nothing needed to be sacrified either!

Lot here about food hygene etc. What do you do when you go to a friends relations? All the preprepared salads and desserts plus the fruit of the BBQ. Do you inspect everything and ask the host questions? And all those parties where everyone brings a dish?

Went to my sisters BBQ yesterday. There are farmers and had "constructed" a BBQ. It was a massive angle iron structure housing two large concrete slabs for the charcoal and a grill that measures 6 foot by 3 foot. More meat than I have ever seen b4, sausages, burgers, ribs, steak, pork cutlets and a couple of freshly caught trout. Well I had a lovely potato salad .
