I've found the best jacket potatoes are the one's you make on bonfire night.
Wrap them in tinfoil and throw them onto the embers of the fire and wait an hour or two for them to cook
As for microwaving - I'll stopped using mine as food tastes 100% better when cooked the old fashioned way i.e electric or gas cooker and not by making the water molecules vibrate a billion times a second.
I usually microwave for about 5 mins, then put in the oven for 15-20 mins to crisp the skin a bit.
I don't like them straight from the microwave, but haven't the patience to wait the hours it takes to cook them the oven
I have to agree with the bonfire ones being good though.. there's something great about eating food you cooked over a fire!
I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
Hello
Haven't any of you guys got a a combi micro/convection oven?
Crispy jacket pot in about 12 mins if you prick the potato with a fork and then coat it a mix of olive oil; turmeric; chili powder and coarse salt - bit messy and you'll have greasy hands for ages. Set the oven to a combi programme - I override mine and boost the micro to max and convection to max. Single pot in about 12 minutes; 2 pots in about 18 minutes. Don't even need to bother turning the pot/s
Skin will be crispy and inside cooked perfectly.
Cheers

OKay the ULTIMATE Jacket Pot.
Get a decent sized potato then wash it, dry it very carefully, dryness is the key so leave it for a little while if you can. Then rub olive oil into the skin then rub in some sea salt. PLace in the oven and cook for about an 1 1/2 hours to 1 3/4 hours at about 170. I also resent the implication that men know nothing about cooking! I can outbake and cook any women I know.

Only alteration is that I rub with butter then salt it makes excellent jack potatoes all cripsy skin and well cooked inside.Originally Posted by RavenNight

I do it exactly the same way but without the salt - (lthough I cook them slightly lower at 150 (double fan oven though).Originally Posted by RavenNight

The way I do mine, is:
- Wash it
- Stab it with a fork all over
- Rub some salt all over
- Microwave it on full power for 10 minutes
- Then stick a metal knife (standard table knife) into the middle and put it in the oven for a hour or so

for the win.
I do the same, but with two metal skewers through each one, so I can get 2 or 3 spuds onto each pair of skewers.
By the way, kebab skewers, of the kind I mean here, as really cheap in the supermarkets now. Normally hung on the end of an aisle somewhere almost invisible for 79p for 6 of them. Everyone should have some,
The hot matel takes the heat through the spud in the oven hence the knife working too.
