and i also dont know what RAM would be best for them, i would prefer 4gb sticks but im unsure on compatability. can anyone recomend decent RAM which is compatable with either of the above motherboards. i have £200 to spend on RAM and £200 to spend on a motherboard.

Different motherboards of the same generation will have negligible affect of game performance therefore choice is more about features and brand preference with a bit of research to avoid the lemons.
200+200 is high for RAM and motherboard combo. Either save it or spend it on SSD, better GPU or better monitor(s)

Higher end motherboards generally do better at high level overclocking, well at least they did back when it was pushing the FSB as high as you could, now with the inetl system of just unlocking the multiplier it's more down to the cpu.

compare the specs on the asus site. I'd go for the P8P67 Pro, Evo or Deluxe myself. The standard and LX versions lose some features, but it's all down to personal preference and what you want to be able to do with the board in the future. Want SLI/Crossfire? Then you'll want a board that does 2xPCIe16 (8x, 8x). Want to run loads of PCI cards? Then make sure it has the right ports and that any which share bandwidth do so in a way that won't be a problem for your components/usage.
Want RAID?
What about OverClocking + voltage tweaks (though as Pob points out, things have changed a bit with Sandy Bridge in this regard).

ye i reckon im gonna go for the vengeance RAM with the p8p67 pro motherboard. the cpu ive been advised to get is an intel i5 2500k which i assume is compatable with the motherboard / RAM. ill have to double check make sure. thanks for the help guys!
yup its perfectly compatible and is 1.5v just how intel likes it
