Possibly given how unstable Windows is anyway. I always run memtest on a new machine before installing Linux though

If you're building yourself then it's definitely recommended to run a check first - I think the windows install discs have this option as well prior to installation. It just helps you rule that out as a source of problems if you encounter them later.

I never feel any difference between value/cheap and expensive/gaming RAMs. May be it is me.
