Quad Core on a Asus P5B-TMX-GB-SI

I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my current Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 up to a Quad Core model- according to the Intel website an ASUS P5 premium would be compatible, but I can't find anything about whether this Asus P5B-TMX-GB-SI OEM model would be. As the PC was bought in late 2007, it seems feasible, but I'm not sure.

I would install CPU-Z and it should tell you what speed the FSB of your processor is running at:
    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Some more details about your motherboard:
    http://forums.hexus.net/mesh-compute...therboard.html

Here is a link to the manual:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?0w3jngmwzzw

Basically your motherboard can support 65NM Core2 Duos. There seems to be no mention of the Core2 Quad although it should work. OTH,it states that the maximum FSB of the processor you can use is 800MHZ which is strange since the E6300 has a 1066MHZ FSB.

Hence the Q6600 and Q6700 may work.

Re: Quad Core on a Asus P5B-TMX-GB-SI

I've already got CPU-Z installed, and it's saying my rated FSB is indeed 1066.7MHz. On the two different manuals you sent, the mediafire one says 800/533MHZ as you mentioned, but the dlcdnet.asus.com one says 1066/800/533MHZ. As my processor is actually FSB rated at 1066.7MHz, does this confirm I have a board capable of a Q6600 or Q6700?

The Q6600 is a 1066MHZ FSB processor like the E6300.Also as your motherboard supports the Pentium D the TDP of the Q6600 should be within the limits of the motherboard.

However the motherboard chipset does not officially support quad cores:

    http://www.intel.com/Products/Deskto...Z-overview.htm

OTH,some motherboards with the same chipset will accept a quad core though.

The only real way to find out is to get a Q6600 yourself and see if it works. Make sure that you get the cooler running G0 stepping:
