The motherboards are launched in early April:

Re: MSI and ASRock Present AM3+ Bulldozer Motherboards Powered by AMD 800-series Chip

To distinguish the new boards from their AM3 counterparts, MSI has decided to paint the CPU socket black
    Wow, just wow!

So if they are still using 800series with no loss of features what are the benefits of the new chipsets?

    EDIT: http://news.softpedia.com/news/AMD-B...s-187009.shtml

No details regarding the performance of the Bulldozer processor when paired together with an AM3 motherboard were provided, but it is expected that there will be some sort of performance penalty as AM3+ boards are expected to support higher HyperTransport and memory speeds as well as a wider connection between the Northbridge and Southbridge.
Faster CPU then slowed by an older chipset? Or stick with an older CPU/Chipset? I wonder what the performance difference will be, it's have to be large enough to warrant buying bulldozer rather than sticking with an older chip.

In a post on the XtremeSystems forum John Fruehe, Director of Product Marketing for Server, Embedded and FireStream products at AMD, said that Bulldozer won't be compatible with AM3 motherboards.
Hmm...but it is compatible with the 800series?..

I'm not sure I understand these boards, maybe if someone want Thuban it would open up an upgrade path but I wouldn't be happy knowing my CPU was being bottlenecked like that. Personally, I'd rather wait for the proper AM3+ chipset boards. It's no different to AM2/+ and at least you can upgrade like this with AMD...

Price, patience(the ability to wait on full BD boards) will have a bearing on the success on these

umm I think you'll find it's like am2/am2+/am3, in the fact that am2+ boards can use ether am3 or am2 and that am2+ and am3 boards used the same chipset.

Yeah, that's my point. The major difference between 2+ and 3 was the change to DDR3, but since the memory controller is on the CPU this didn't require a change to the chipset. HT speed did change but there isn't a massive difference IIRC.
