Cheap cheap setup
Intel
I3 2125: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel...tio-65w-retail
Asus board H77: chipset http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...hdmi-micro-atx
OR AMD route
FX-6300 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-f...che-95w-retail
Gigabyte board http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...e-20-(x16)-atx
Anyone disagree shout at me
EDIT: You don't have graphics card? Is your budget including graphics card? The AMD line ups today don't have onboard graphics. So Intel based system may be way to go at the moment if you are saving up for a graphics card

I will wait for the initiator's response first, if he is saving up for a GPU on side and does the £200 budget should cover that too

The only boards available now will onboard graphics are the 760G and 880G board which aren't the best for the FX range.
They are cheap but they're not really suited for the FX range so reliability, performance and compatibility may be an issue.
If you are waiting for a graphics card and have to start your build now, I would suggest going an Intel route, purely because of the onboard graphics. Whether it be an i3 or FX-6300 they're both similar in price and performance similar in what you want to do.
Also if energy efficiency is your concern the i3 is a more power friendly chip, so if you haven't already bought a power supply you could save yourself some money and opt for a lower wattage rating unit.
What graphics card are you thinking of getting?
So, what does the budget include overall?
Do you already have RAM, power supply etc?

You could get a Core i5 and a basic Z77 ATX motherboard:

http://www.ebuyer.com/407542-gigabyt...ard-ga-z77p-d3
Regarding the Core i3 2100 and the FX6300,having owned the former myself and knowing someone who has the latter,in a lot of games using modern multi-platform engines, the FX6300 usually tends to be ahead. The Core i3 2100 tends to be better with games with more legacy engines.
Edit!!
Regarding the games the OP mentions,PS2 is a bit of an unoptimised mess and there is a big patch which is being released which should hopefully help improve performance.
Guild Wars 2 is quite CPU heavy and will benefit from a Core i5. I would try to get a Core i5 in this case.
Regarding the graphics card I would try to aim at least for a GTX660.

i like the sound of the i5 but it goes out my budget i may reconsider my budget but what is the amd equivalent of a i5
GW2 is probably one of the games which is most Intel friendly if you spend over £100. Regarding the FX6300 and a IB Core i3,I think the latter will have the edge too,but its hard to say. The main reason is that the Vishera CPUs had bug fixes and general improvements which could lead to decent improvements in a number of games over the Bulldozer CPUs.
There is this article from TH regarding GW2:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rk,3268-7.html
The problem is that they don't run any of the CPUs at normal frequencies!! Fail!! However,if you look at something like an FX4170(4GHZ to 4.2GHZ),it would be in the same ballpark as a Core i3 2100(3.1GHZ),and it would also mean that a FX6200(3.8GHZ to 4.1GHZ) would outperform both.
The jump from a Core i3 2100 to a Core i3 3220,is probably around 10% overall,and the FX6300 is generally faster than a FX6200.
Do you have Scan free postage activated?? You can get this CPU:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel...dmi-69w-retail
http://www.ebuyer.com/407542-gigabyt...ard-ga-z77p-d3
Both the CPU and motherboard should come to just under £200.
However, the CPU has no built-in graphics.
