    Question Who's your music idol/hero?

Funny when i was writing idol, i was thinking iDol.

Mine has to be Timbaland. He's a beatmaking genius. He's a producer, who I think usually has more talents than some of the 1 hit wonders that we so often see. He's made country, pop, rock(ish), rap, Rnb, hiphop, and more. I listen to all sorts of music, like Drum N Bass, Rock, Hip-Hop, RnB, Ballads, and I can even listen to some classical here and then. But this man personally amazes me with his talents at producing. If I could have one wish in this world (excluding infinite money, world peace, adriana lima in bed etc) I would love for him to train me to become his beatmaking prodigy...

    I know you are all like 'ah hiphop? pft chavs chains and women in thongs' but he can't be found with idiots such as 50 Cent and the rest. He made famous tracks such as;

Justin Timberlake - Cry Me a River
    LL Cool J - Headsprung

Practically all of Missy Elliots tracks except for her new material
And my personal favourite, 'We Need A Resolution' By Aaliyah

It's a shame that now, since I have been totally seduced by Aaliyahs voice and her awesome tracks, she is not here

Apparently he has upcoming collaborations with big artists such as Coldplay.... looking SOO forward to it

Chris Carrabba is my favourite music hero of all time. Most people don't know who he is yet he's one of the most popular writers in America. Funny that.

Timba is good yeah, and I really like his production, but I often find his beats are very similar, as great as they are.
You know as soon as the beat hits that he has produced it hehe.

    Either -

James Hetfield - The man that made me pick-up a guitar and has influenced my playing more than anyone else.

    Or

Nikki Sixx - A living (not for lack of heroin overdoses) legend who I'm beginning to believe is the only man more indestructible than keef richards.

I'm also an admirer of Timbaland's production and he's shown his versatality by working with so many different artists.
But like Bertie has mentioned his beats tend to be very similar and you immeadiately know whether the song has been made by him. It's as if he's leaving his signature in it and I don't know whether that's a good thing or not hehe.

I like Missy's music but she's a better producer than a rapper, her lyrics are generally weak but I guess it's suited for her pop-rap gimmick. Also Aaliyah was a nice singer but she was very overrated as she never had a deep vocal range and I think it's thanks to Timbaland's and Missy's production that helped hide this weakness.

Now back on topic I'd have to say my favourite artist is DMX. I've always enjoyed his gritty hardcore lyrics and production and the thing you can always appreciate about him is that he's honest and true to himself unlike a lot of other commerical nonsense you see today.

I can't pick just one, so i'll say a few and explain why.

Nuno Bettencourt - First guitarist i really listened to (thanks to my brother being a fan) while growing up and made me wonder how the hell is he playing that on a guitar.

Tim Commerford - For inspiring me to take up bass

Dirk Lance/Alex Katunich - Also for inspiring me to start playing + making me realise the style of bass lines i'd try to write.

Jimmy Page - For...well being Jimmy Page, i'm sure i don't need to explain this one.
    Robert Plant - Legendary frontman.
John Paul Jones - For being a rock and playing multiple instruments, allowing the band to experiment with different ideas.
John Bonham - He wrote the Moby Dick drum solo, if that isn't enough, he was only 20 when he did it.

And last but not least a friend of mine called Bondy - For giving me the availabilty to watch Jimmy Page-esque style, knowledge and control of a guitar from just a few feet away. Truely awesome

    That about covers it.

At the moment - Super Furry Animals

purely because the new album is brilliant, yet the first time i listened to it, i thought it was slow and dull. But after 3 or 4 listens became convinced its their best album. Not many bands can draw me in like that these days. I'm always impressed when i hear something and can think; Where the hell did that come from?

my plan to combat commercial music is too create a band so xscenex that we havn't even formed yet and only play secret gigs that no-one but ourselves know about, that'll teach the record compaines

I admire George Michael & Elton very much. Not because they're gay, but because they're bold & honest no matter what.
As for musical heroes, gawd knows, Lee brilleaux & Wilco Johnson from Dr Feelgood, Ritchie Blackmore, Ozzy, James Hetfield, Scott Ian & Billy Milano from S.O.D. (Speak English or Die was groundbreaking), Hendrix, Clapton, Kim Wilson (blows a mean harp), Mark Feltham from 9 Below Zero (Best harp player ever bar none). So very many for different reasons.
