We're all big readers here on HEXUS, as the bookswaps in the past have proved.
So, have you read a book that you think we all need to read, any genre, Fiction or non-Fiction, write a review & spread the word!
Read a couple recently:
Terry Pratchett - Unseen Academicals
Enjoyable, but not upto his best I found, but still funny in places.
It didn't take me long to read, as with most of his books, the moment I pick it up I keep reading and doing the 'one more chapter' thing.
Very much worth a read if you like Discworld books.
Dan Brown - The Lost Symbol
Only read this as I'd read the others... suffice to say it was just so slow reading it took me *ages* to finish it, and in the end I was left a little non-plussed really by it... maybe it'll be better as a film? *groan*
Robert Rankin - Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls
Robert Rankin at his best, strange goings on again in the Brentford Triangle! Using the familiar characters from his previous novels this time though there is gene splicing in a kitchen pan to create the perfect race horse so Pooley can finally pull off the Pooley, assasins from the future and a band signing. All this leads up to an action packed hilarious crescendo that would put Woodstock to shame.
Jack Higgins - Day of Judgement
This is the first Jack Higgins book I have ever read and it has already spurred me on to pick up a few more which are there waiting to be read. The Berlin Wall is still standing strong, a priest is being held in a castle and put into a sensory depravation chamber to make him talk and confess to being a CIA spy on German TV. Time for a team to be put together and rescue him before the Kennedy visit. Loved this book start to finish, granted it can be a bit slow to start but it is a very interesting keep you hooked read. (You can get this at ASDA at the minute for a mere £1 in their sale which is what made me pick it up in the first place)
The Road by Cormac McCarthy. The film of the same name was out recently and was criticised for being depressing. Much like the book in fact! However, despite this it's an impelling read. It's one of those books that you can't understand why you keep reading it but you do. The plot follows a father and son in a post apocalypse land walking towards the coast. I'm saying no more mainly not to spoil anything but also because there's not much else to say! Definitely worth reading.
An Atlantean Triumvirate, Ghosts of the Past, The Centre Cannot Hold
The Pillars of Britain, Foundations of the Reich, Cracks in the Pillars.
My books are available here for Amazon Kindle. Feedback always welcome!
