Thumbs up The *offical* hexus opteron overclocking thread

right as quite a few hexites appear to have gone for opterons this past week and have started getting them now i thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where we can all post our opteron overclocks aswell as any tips etc

    CPU details
    CABYE 0540FPMW

no idea what temps are like as i seem to have an issue with this bios version displaying massively different temps each time i turn the computer on, i am however now going to get a big typhoon as soon as they are available

EDIT 3 now at 2750MHz 1-1 1.4 volts , now with geil ultraX

rest of spec in mysystem <----

From all the hype, I was expecting ppl to hit about 2.75 with stock volts and std air.

Is that a little optimistic now ?

Changing from stock cooler to slient tower only gave me a mere 50Mhz higher in overclocking (didn't put the voltage up over 1.525 though) The temperature does go down by like 10'C (but adding another 10'C back when I up the voltage)

Can we maybe standadize posts showing overclocking results - something along the line of

    CPU
    Stepping
    Cooling
    Temps

It will save alot of post of people asking all the above time and time again.

Really, really want to hear of results on the Asus A8N-SLi boards... I have a brand new Standard here waiting for the 146 to turn up today for my new build, yet I've heard only the Premiun can get up to 300htt with the Standard and Deluxe stuck at 250htt, Quite blatently, the Premium would be the obvious choice for an Opteron build. Sumang have you built your yet?!

This is where I am at the moment with the Opteron 146 CABYE 0540FPBW from OcUK.

    The specs so far:
    300 x 9 - 2700
    LDT x 3
    1.375V + 104% = 1.430 in BIOS, reads as 1.392
    Memory - 150 divider - 2.5 4 4 10 (225 actual)

have been testing with the 9x multi so I could do direct comparisons with my venice 3000+ at all the various speeds and settings i have tried. I set the voltage to what it is so I could vitually take it out of the equation, plus that is what it was set to for the venice!
Temps so far seem good, 34C idle and not seen anything over 41C, through MBM5.
going to work at 6 so will leave it folding for stability testing.

Overall though, I have't noticed much differance at any comparable setting to the A64 3000+ venice, maybe a few more cpu points in 3D03.
Sandra results are almost identical, with the opty being slightly lower for both cpu and memory. Acceptable as the venice scores were done about a month ago.
    | Opteron 146 (CABYE 0540FPBW) @ 312 x 9 = 2808Mhz | DFI Ultra - D | 2 x 512 Kingmax hardcore PC3700 | XpertVision 7800GT (430, 1100) | Sata Maxtor 80Gb | Arctic cooling Freezer64 | Tagan TG480-UO1 | Lian-Li PC-7+ (Modded with 12cm front and back). | 3D01 - 29919 | 3D03 - 16264 | 3D05 - 7597 | 3D06 - 3950 |
    | Still a work in progress.... | Opty 165 on its way!! |

I've only ever overclocked an AthlonXP and that was piss easy, so when I get my Opteron going tomorrow I hope you guys can help me out! All this talk of HTT and stuff is scaring the sh*t out of me I'm struggling to get my voice heard at OcUK forums so maybe wh can get a little group going here to help each other out, post results etc. In all honesty I'm just looking for a decent stable overclock on stock volts, I'm hoping it should be pretty straightforward. My system will be:

    Asus A8N-SLi Premium
    Opteron 146 (CABYE 0540FPAW)
    OCZ 2GB (2 x 1gb) PC3200 Performance Series RAM
    Sapphire X800GTO2

Hoping it'll be a kick-ass little gaming system!

it is really quite easy to oc these opterons , basically you knock the HTT multi down to 3 , underclock the memory and then bump up the htt by 10mhz at a time testing first with memtest http://www.memtest.org/#downiso and then in windows with prime95 and super pi
, you keep doing this untill you have errors and then you downclock a bit untill it's stable then you can start to play with oc'ing the memory
