I was hoping to see the Vault-Tec salesman in the first episode such as in the games.

Ah good was waiting for some word of mouth. I'll probably watch it near Prime Day as I tend to get a month's worth of Prime for the deals.

Anyone been watching the new Dr Who? Thought the first episode was the stupidest thing I have ever seen. Others were ok

Re: What TV show are you watching right now?

^ ugh, Disney please save me from the monsters.

I did hope that there wouldn't be glaring evidence of their involvement but there's no gainsaying it really. Watched the first episode not having seen the xmas special, so I was pitched straight into it but that shouldn't be absolutely crucial imo - disliked it on most fronts tbh. And definitely, really weak episode as an opener, even if you don't actively dislike children . Hate the new tardis set, and a set is exactly what it looked like, no more. As I've seen said elsewhere, the 'I'm a Doctor this is a Tardis' stuff was very clunkily done and other things seemed unduly concertina'd up as well (Tardis key so soon?) or were repetitious.

Hand on heart I just couldn't say I believed this Doctor as a Time Lord, four figures old, seen it all & all that. Everyone will look for different things and find different things to like or dislike and I expected mixed reviews, but I actually didn't expect to read stuff like "even the haters will find it impossible to resist Ncuti Gatwa / What an obviously perfect piece of casting / Critics praise mesmerising performance /..within minutes, you almost forgot The Doctor had been played by anyone else" (really??), and even 'with Ncuti Gatwa in the Tardis, Doctor Who could go back to when it was still one of best shows on TV'. ok those last two were the Sun, but still. I could barely believe he knew his way round the Tardis.

Episode 2 - Disney villain, surprise surprise - not really thanks. The opening few mins were the best bit of the whole thing imo but ok I am old school so I'd probably take the 'claustrophobic ghost stories' over the sort of tack this is setting off on. I'm aware of the pros/cons and budgeting factors but hands up am biased against Disney anyway and given that reluctance I'm stretching a point to watch at all - I suspect it will be back to re-runs for me sadly.

So what I am hearing is "Space Babies" didn't really do it for you ?

Yeah the whole thing has been a bit of a shower to be honest. I don't mind the characters, I mean it takes a while to get into the role but the song and dance numbers could do without. Viewing figures are way down. Though be interesting to see how iPlayer affects that.

Will watch to the bitter end but you can definitely tell Disney's involvement and if it carries on it will end up destroying Dr Who just like Disney has done with everything else.

    In a nutshell really.

Song & dance, well I couldn't say Jinkx Monsoon didn't turn in a very good performance for example, if I'd wanted a performance like that in Doctor Who, but I didn't. And I got that final number stuck for a couple of days, argh.

Have now seen ep 3 and ok better, though has any of it so far really been noticeably aimed more at children level, didn't I read that was supposed to be the case. And 'Boom' struck me as particularly 'people have died how sad oh well life goes on, smiley finish' even by normal standards. And a few other nitpicky bits but I may be just looking for them at this point..

Do I plod on, we'll see, but I'd rather bitter end wasn't the way of things.

Hmm yes, the sing song was ok but did it have to be there? I mean we had a sing song in the specials and in Boom he is for some reason singing away at something else with some very poor reasoning as to why.

Boom was the strangest story, I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it but you have to be pretty bloody stupid to do what they did

I've started watching 'Dark Matter'. It's a bit slow-going I think, & I find the fact that the main protagonist can't understand what's going on when it really should be blatantly clear to him a bit annoying! (don't want to give away spoilers!). Still, Jennifer Connelly is in it at least, although I'm not sure that she alone will maintain my interest in the series unless things pick up a bit!

I started watching that. Mainly because the 1st episode was free. Thinking of signing up to watch the rest.

Re: What TV show are you watching right now?

I read the Dark Matter book, which was OK.

I recently read "A Gentleman in Moscow" which I gather is also being made into a series. The book was excellent. possibly my new favourite book.
