How to interconnect 2lans via wireless....

    Hello all,

Quick question I'm hoping some one on here can help me with. I have an ADSL router ( Linksys WAG300N ) connected to a LAN with a few pcs, xbox360 etc on.

Outside I have a PC running windows XP Home that picks up the signal and can use the net and interact with devices on the LAN.

Question is this, I have a switch outside that I wish to connect another couple of pc's to - using the pc with the wireless card in as the 'gateway' to the internet.

Also, is there a DHCP server built into XP or do I have to static config new devices? ( or is there another program I can use to control the whole thing?? )

    Thanks for reading!

would it be better (easier?) just to buy a wireless access point and stick that outside along with the switch, and then everything will work - assuming you can bridge the AP to your wireless router

Had thought of it, but was hoping to avoid as I already have a switch and said network card... dont see the point in paying extra money if i can avoid it!

    Should be straightforward...

Have a search for "Internet Connection Sharing". I _think_ it's in XP home.

This looks like a reasonable article on the subject :

    w w w . practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics

(sorry, hexus won't let me post full url yet )

However I'd always go for a hardware solution, what with XP's propensity to need reboots. DD-WRT/OpenWRT on a compatible router will do a fine job of bridging and a WRT54G or somesuch will only cost >£50 on ebay.
