D-Link PCMCIA wifi card - streaming video pauses?

I'm testing a D-Link laptop card. It locks to my WLAN at 54Mbps but when I'm streaming avi video from my desktop it pauses (about 0.5s) every minute or so.

I'm able to stream the same video using a MiniPCI card WiFi card on the same laptop without problem.

I notice the wireless client has an option to change "data packet parameters" of "fragmentation threshold" and "rts threshold hold".

Any idea what these mean and if adjusting them would help solve this problem?

What are you using to view the streamed video mate? Its possible its not buffering enough of the stream before playing it might help to increase this on the laptop.

In windows media player, you can do this by going tools/options then hit the performance tab and increase the amount of video buffered.

It may take a bit longer for the stream to start but may help to smooth the playback.

Only other thing I can think of is the codec used for playback, is it up to date?

I know this might not really help but I have found PCMCIA cards to always have problems with media streaming (in my experience). Replace a 54Mbps PCMCIA with a 54Mbps USB dongle and all other things being equal the USB tends to perform better.

I have no idea why at all - maybe something a PCMCIA card does in the OS?
