PPPoA or PPPoE

I've just changed BB provider & set my new router to use PPPoE as that was the default, and it works very nicely thankyou. However what's the difference between the two standards & is one better than the other?

PPPoA = Point to Point Protocol over ATM (ATM = Asyncronous Transfer Mode)

PPPoE = Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet

They simply tunnel PPP traffic through a packet interface, which is usually ATM in the UK, or Ethernet.
