    Playing a game over ICS

Months ago I tried to play a game called Jazz Jackrabbit 2 on an ICS client, but I had timeouts all the time and my servers were pinging. I tried asking on the JCF if anyone knew a solution but I couldn't get it working. Yesterday I bought myself a laptop and I thought "Maybe one of those guys at Hexus knows the answer" so here I am again.

Here's an image (appears only if the ICS host computer is online, though):

The ports that needed to be, somehow, forwarded are 10052 and 10054 TCP and UDP.

I hope someone can help me here.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Although this can probably be done, you would save yourself a massive headache by picking up something like this:

I would just get a router or setup a Linux box for ICS. It could be your wireless setup though.

Hate to tell you but there are reasons that ICS is setup to share two computers and home router setups have 4 network ports. Its all about using the right tool for the right job, and the home router is definitely how you should be doing this.

Re: Playing a game over ICS

@TiG: Well I harly ever have both ICS clients running at the same time anyway, let be having them connecting to the network.
@herulach and jay_oasis: the screen didn't show up indeed, but thanks jay

So basically I only need to change the settings for the internet connection on the server, and thus leave the Ad-hoc connection (at both sides)? Let's hope it'll do the trick.

EDIT: nope that didn't do it ;( And now don't say 'router router buyyyyyy!!!' as I'm not giving up that easily.

'External port number' and 'Internal port number' must be the same, right?

    not necessarily.

in any NAT configuration (ICS is a NAT server), there's the port that comes from the outside world, and the port that the application expects. There are cases where two machines behind a NAT setup expect to use the same ports, so you need to tinker with things. Say (for example) you had two machines with an SSH server on port 22. you could tell your NAT server that any incoming connections on port 22 should be forwarded to port 22 on machine A, and on port 22222 to port 22 on machine B

this kind of thing is only necessary for incoming connections though - NAT handles outgoing links fine. it's a long time since i've been aware of any game where port forwarding is necessary to join a game (as opposed to hosting a game)
