    Boosting a wireless signal ?

since I've finlly movedback into my room today after having it decorated. I'm finding my wireles signal pretty poor, it seems to want to stay stable at low / to good sometimes it will jump up to very good.

It seems since sticking my desk next to my bed that my bed is the cause of the problem, sadly I can't change my room around again but is there anyway I can boost the signal ? Would getting an antenna that I could put ontop of my desk help ??

The router we have is a Netgear DG 834 and the card in my PC is a Netgear WG311 V3.

Changing the antenna on the router and your wireless card will probably work

Something like this would probably work:
Edimax 5dBi Indoor Omni antenna (using RP-SMA 1m Cable)

is your router compatible with 3rd party firmwares such as freeWRT? if so you should be able to boost the power of you wireless signal from 50mw to 251mw, which should do it. just make sure you secure your wireless otherwise you may as well put a big neon sign on the front of your house saying "freez internetz fer ya pr0nzas"

Going to order one next week when I get paid, thanks for that. Think I can get away with one for just my wireless lan card, as it is the antenna for it at the moment is pushed up pretty much against a wall.

Not sure if the DG 834 is compatible with that but I'll dig around and have a look, I just hope i don't fry the router when doing it !!

Hmmm might have to get my old man to do that, he's quite handy with a soldering iron.

Re: Boosting a wireless signal ?

You can get things that plug into normal plug socks and extend the range across different rooms.
