    Gaming probs with Virgin: New

    Good Evenink

So I'm on Virgin Media and the past three weeks I have had so much lag on online games its impossible to play. So I've decided to change ISP's, so could some peeps recommend a non-cable ISP that they use which gives them a good ping with no packetloss. I'm sure theres a few of you guys that play online games and don't have any problems.

    Cheers for any replies

PS I'm not worried about Bandwidth, for all I care 1mb is fine, I just want a reliable, fast connection

Bethere / BE seems to be a big favourite at the moment.
Keep in mind you will need a BT line though

Well Telewest/Virgin is the same thing, and I'm not gettin a terrible ping usually but I am getting up to 40% packetloss during peak times which is absurd. I've had 4 engineers come around in the past 3 weeks and they say its the modem, but now I have the latest one and it's still shyte.

Does anyone rate BT as any good for Broadband? I just want quality and not quantity and i will pay for a good contention ratio or something that will guarantee the ping is ultra low

    No not one bit.

Ask anyone on a BTbroadband connection to tracert to your favourite server IP and you'll see the routing looks a bit longer with more hops compared to other ISP's (it did the last time I touched a BT connection 6 months ago)

Add to this their rather low "monthly" transfer limits and whatnot I would advise going for a ISP which is better. If you want assistance then the thinkbroadband website is a very good resource to visit for performance ratings and also various ISP forums.

Re: Gaming probs with Virgin: New

I had this issue with Virgin a while back on their 8 meg package.

They changed it to a 2 meg line ( think got rid of ADSL Max) and all was fine after that. I had no problems.

Just explain to them that you want to play games and need low pings and they should sort you out.....if your not bothered about download speed that is.

Father-in-law has also had problems recently.......shame because they used to be go.

    Otherwise SKY
