    Help me fix my router/msn

Right then. My old router died, so I had to buy another one. I ended up with a Belkin F5D7632uk4A.

Previously I had no issues with MSN or any varient of the client on any system. Now, I can only run the MS client on my main rig which is connected to the router directly via CAT5. I can't run Mercury Messenger etc. Same goes for my new Macbook Pro. Won't connect at all using Mercury, Adium etc. As far as the client is concerned it doesn't have a net connection.

I assume it would be the firewall in the router that's causing the issue and stopping things from working, but I've not got a scooby do when it comes to these things. I'm guessing I need to tell it to allow the apps to connect to the net, but I don't know how to do this.

Anyone in the know got one of these routers?

More info - just had a nosy in the firewall settings. I've tried the DMZ function - didn't work. Tried disabling the firewall completely - didn't work. Tried disabling the WAN ping blocker - again didn't work.

For the record, Skype, iChat and Googletalk in Adium appear to work fine.

Mercury, now thats a blast from the past... heh

perhaps try pidgin logging into MSN to see if it specifically a mercury problem... IIRC that program could be a little wacky from time to time

Seen issues with Belkin routers and Windows Live services before. Change your MTU setting to 1454 or 1468

Tried 1454 and still no luck

It also won't let me set a higher value than 1454.

looks like a port forwarding issue, try this:

Port Forwarding for the Belkin F5D6231-4

I know it's not the exact same router but possibly the firmware is very similar - the ports required to be forwarded will certainly be the same.
