Best cable Router recommendations - Bittorrent friendly

    Hi guys

Just wanted to ask if there are any Virgin media users out there that can recommend a good cable router which have no problems handling torrents.

Basically i inherited a Linksys WRT54GS that is fine for general use, works fine with all PCs/PS3 etc but has lots of problems dealing with Torrents. To cut a long story short after allot of googling it appears that my version (v6) and above no longer has the extra RAM chip and so it gets overloaded with connections it can not handle above 10 or something. Basically on my 4mb line torrents rarelly exceed 20kbs download. People recommend using different types of firmware but unfortunately it can "brick" my router due to its version revision.

So basically I am in the market for a cable router with 4 lan ports that handles Torrents fine - ie can handle the many connection and achieve a respectable download speed (don't need wireless - but i like the feature of mine that i can manually enable/disable it so that would be cool)

    Any recommendations graciously welcomed

Hmmm well I was using previous versions of the WRT54GS (ver 5 or 4) and a WRT54GL (the linux version) all had been flashed with either DDWRT or Thybor firmware and they handled torrents fine.

I've now upgraded to a wireless N network so I could flog you one if want.

Alternatively if you want to go wireless N then I can also recommend the Netgear WNR854T, has gigabit ports and also handles torrents well.

A Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato does the trick very nicely for me - I've got a single torrent running at the moment that is downloading at just over 2.1Mbytes/sec.

You will only brick it if you don't RTFM's

Put Tomato / OpenWRT / WRTDD on it and you'll have a very powerful router
