    No, you don't.

    What is the model of this 'modem' you already have?

    This is probably a good place to start.

    If the modem is a router then yes. I assumed that the modem is actually a modem.
    I kinda assumed that his modem would at least be able to hold his log on information so that it's an always on connection. Didn't realise they still made "dumb" modems unless you use a cable ISP.

    *Edit* Just did a quick google and if this is his modem, Huawei SmartAX MT882, then he can enter his settings on the modem, so what I suggested will work and a switch is only a tenner so probably a cheaper way to go.

    Re: PS3 online

    i have a SmartAX MT882 TalkTalk modem. but i use this (via the ethernet port) to connect to the internet. so, do i need another modem, do i buy another ethernet port (ie. ethernet card ) or simply a homeplug would do?

    That's a router, not just a modem.

    If it were a modem then no matter if it could save the logon details or not, just shoving a switch in between it and the PS2 and PC wouldn't work as a modem can't do NAT.

    It's a router you have, not just a modem.

    If you were to get a pair of homeplugs and a switch then you would plug things in as follows:

    Code:
    ADSL -> Router -> Switch -> PC
                          |
                          -> Homeplug -> Mains -> Homeplug -> PS3

    Do you already have a switch?. Any switch will do, I just picked the cheapest that Scan have.

    Sorry mate meant modem/router, twas early in the morn

    Gino, hook it up as I and Burble have suggested (Follow Burble's diagram as it's clearer than my pathetic effort. )

    The only things you need to buy are

    1 x PS3
    2 x HomePlug
    1 x El cheapo switch (unless you already have one as Burble has asked.)

    Re: PS3 online

    what does a "switch" do? can a router (to connect my PS3 to my PC then to the BT/TalkTalk socket?) suffice?
