Virgin Cable and Belkin F5D5231UK4

Hello People

I moved place and my LLD has a wired Cable modem with Virgin.

He said, if I get a wireless router I'd be able to use his Internet Connection.
So have been yesterday to the shop and got the Belkin for only £29.99 (cheapest one) ... my question: would you think that'll do the trick ?

I ask because there are so many different ones on the market from £29.99 to over £100.- and I was really unsure what to get.
Then I thought, hmmm, if the cheapest one can handle browsing around and playing games online - that'd be enough for me really.

I don't do downloading huge files and I'm located next to the room where the Router is anyway.

Haven't installed it yet (I'm at work right now), but should be straight forward, right ?
Connect cable modem to the router, connect LLDs desktop to the Router too, install software on LLDs computer and make my desktop receive signal from Router ... that's it - right ?

In theory it'll work but Belkin network stuff is pretty iffy at best but you've already bought it, so hey ho.

There's no software to install over and above the drivers for the wireless cards in the PC's.

Seems like you don't have much trust in Belkin.

I'll tell you what ... I had the BT Homehub middle of last year and it was a disaster.
Not only was the BT helpline crap but the DL speed was around 1 Meg while I had a 8 Meg package !!
They only said ... yeah, "up to" ... what a crap !

Well, I have moved and use my LLDs Virgin cable internet now ... 2 Meg - spot on.
Because my LLD had only a wired router he said if I get a wireless one I could use it too.
At Currys and PC World I have seen so many different ones and usually I'm all up for getting the expensive gear because I'm for quality.
Should I tell you what ?
I decided to get the cheapest wireless router they had for £29.99 (Special offer) ... the Belkin Wireless G Router 54 Mbps ... 802.11g ... 2.4Ghz.
I was a bit worried to have chosen a trouble maker, but the installation was smooth like baby skin cream ... as well was adding a security key afterwards easy as pie

And it works with no issues whatsoever.
Note: it was the cheapest from them all, hahaha.

thats not always a bad thing, saves their own dodgy connection manager fighting with the one built into windows which works well.

I did have an issue setting up a Belkin on VM (or NTL it was at the time) changed it for a DLink and everything went fine. Athough I. did later discover the ethernet port on the NTL modem was dodgy so it migh have been that actually
