    Is anyone else worried?

ISP data deal with former 'spyware' boss triggers privacy fears | The Register

Was reading this article recently, and I for one am quite concerned. It seems rather unbelievable that any large company could get away with selling data on us on such a massive scale, especially given the page header files they'll be scanning could easily contain usernames, password, card details etc.

    Re: Is anyone else worried?

wow, soo we can leave are internet providers? as i believe most contracts involve privacy and this is obviously breached and do we even see a reduction on price? NO, same with bf2142 with the advertising thing. Maybe just maybe virgin will pull out >.<, i dont care about isp seeing what i do but when its out in the open thats like, basic data protection act broken right there. Too think, we get so many fraudsters and stuff already, this will just make it worse.

    Re: Is anyone else worried?

It is a disgusting abuse of and invasion of our privacy. Don't know if it'll do any good, but we can always complain to the Information Commissioner. I've put an email in asking whether it would fall within the IC's remit, and I'll let you know what the response is.

    Re: Is anyone else worried?

I believe this was also discussed here (hexus thread)

What I would like to know is if this also applies to BT resellers? If so, I am stumped as there is no LLU gear installed on my exchange.

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths some businesses go to to shoot themselves in the foot.

According to this it doesn't affect BT's wholesale ISPs such as Plusnet, not sure if this is what you mean by "BT Resellers"

    Cheers Splash

Yes, I meant other ISPs who use the BT backbone (ie Wholesale) without installing their own equipment at the exchange.

But back to the original OP, like I said in the other post, it really is like stalking. Very wrong in my eyes.

This, added onto the whole DNA database and other rail roaded 'ideas', makes this country worse than China for monitoring it's citizens (IMO).
