    naw I don't have a 834N
Stuck with the GT for now. I was searching if there was a telnet command to increase the wireless signal like I could do on my old wrt54g. as for firmware, I'd move off custom if only I could retain the snr settings!

Then it would stop with these problems and make you think it's fine. I used to be one of those peeps who read about the Speedtouch woe posts, and I used to think to myself "I must be a lucky one with mine working just fine". The thing is it never happens!!

But when it starts annoying you off that bad till you reach your limit then you'll realise. I can't even use it as a wireless bridge as well! £100* my ass, isn't worth £25 if you ask me.

    * £100 referring to how much you will be charged if you damage or don't return your Speedtouch on Be. I'd rather have a DG834N delivered on activation day than that p.o.c.
Hehehe. That all sounds scarily familiar. I moved to a fleabay 'Sky' DG834GT, which I promptly flashed back to being a standard Netgear, a couple of weeks ago. Since that fateful day I have not paid any attention to it at all. It just sits there on the shelf, blinks its lights and delivers internet access, exactly unlike the speedtouch.

this really is what the OP should be doing, as i said - the 834gt is one of the good routers. and problems with it can be ironed out by us.

Yes the DG834GT is just excellent, I have had one issue and that was with UPnP port mappings not staying (not sure if this was official or DGTeam f/w) so I just disabled UPnP and forwarded ports properly. Other than that it is rock solid.

    Re: Router recommmendation

I have the DG834GT (reflashed Sky model) and DG834N. The GT performs better than the N for both wireless and ADSL performance for me. The Sky-badged DG834GT is easily reflashed to official Netgear firmware using the Netgear firmware recovery tool - but this tool doesn't work on Vista - you need to run it on XP.

    Re: Router recommmendation

To be honest I've never heard of that brand. Seems very cheap for a wireless N router. I'm pretty sure the old adage about getting what you pay for probably applies here.

Also it appears that there is no modem included ( either cable or ADSL) so you will need a separate modem. You are probably better off getting one with a built in modem from someone like Draytek, Buffalo, Lynksys or Netgear

You just use the Netgear recovery tool to unlock it and load the regualr firmware and away you go. Deinifely cant do better for the money.

    Re: Router recommmendation

more praise for the DG834GT. It is highly recommended for O2 and BE on other forums (for connection speeds/reliability... the one they sent was awful cutting off every hour or so), and can be had for cheap on auction.

Mines on o2 16meg, and connects 16,381kbs down, and 1300 kbs up. Works 24/7 no probs too so far! Wireless is OK, agreed it could be stronger though.

I agree. I'm on Be and got a fleabay Sky GT too, flashed the firmware and am just using it as a modem connected to a Linksys draft-N router. The GT is rock solid.
