Be* Broadband - Change Line Profile via Member Centre

In case anyone with Be* isn't aware, you can now change your line profile via your member centre - on login scroll down and it's bottom-right:

    1) optimise for speed = 3db profile
    2) standard setting = 6db profile
    3) optimise for reliability = 9db profile
    4) gaming mode on/off = fastpath

    Nice!

edit: it's available for all account types, apparently there is a known bug that some members may not have it yet.

  2. Received thanks from:

wow thats pretty neat. I wonder if this option will replace the need for a dg834gt router for keeping snr settings.

Oh, forgot to add - when you make the change it will default back to previous settings if you don't go back and confirm the change - which is nice if you screw it up!

Re: Be* Broadband - Change Line Profile via Member Centre

Can anyone confirm what speed increases they have experienced switching from option 2 (standard) to option 1 (faster)? And what the impact on reliability is in real terms??

    Thanks

Re: Be* Broadband - Change Line Profile via Member Centre

Went from 15,500 (6db) up to 17,000 sync - downloads definitely quicker.

    As for stability - no issues - using a netgear dg834g (v4.0)

It really depends on your own circumstances - quality of your BT line, your internal wiring and the equipment you're using.

The good thing is, it's an instant "on" when you change the setting - you're line will drop/re-sync with the new profile - if you don't confirm the change back in your member centre after 30 mins it reverts back - so it's quite quick/easy to test it.

Granted you could tweak your SNR using DMT tool but now it's permanent rather than resetting when you cycle your router.

Cool - thanks for pointing this out chadders! I'm now giving the speed settings a test (9.4Mb instead of 8.0)

Thanks for this chadders, "reliable" might well come in handy when I am having a lot of disconnects - it can be infuriating for online gaming.

Re: Be* Broadband - Change Line Profile via Member Centre

tried it and it does make a difference except gaming mode, with it on or off, I still get around 40-50ms ping in Counterstrike Source

My sig shows mine set to speed/gaming on

However im having to use the Bebox as my Draytek 2820 syncs the same, but only gives me 3.5mb down and 600 up

Re: Be* Broadband - Change Line Profile via Member Centre

Seems there is a fault with fastpath at the moment (wrt member centre changes):-

    1. You will be able to change your profile 6 times in a calendar month.
    2. This functionality is also not available when the DLM status is in running state (the first two weeks of your connection).

    3. What will the different options do:

Optimise for speed sets target SNR to 3dB - this will increase the speed you get but can decrease the stability of the line

Standard setting sets target SNR to 6dB - default profile

Optimise for reliability sets target SNR to 9dB - this will increase the stability but decrease the speed you get

Gamin Mode on/off - this will enable/disable fastpath (decreased latency and better speed but can decrease the stability of the line) - Bear in mind that this option is still not working properly but we are working on it. For now, if you want to have fastpath enabled, please raise a ticket through your Member Center account.

    Kind Regards,
    Deyan
