    Re: SKY broadband

Been on Sky Max for a year and haven't seen any evidence of traffic shaping. Always see good speeds. As others have said the support isn't up to much; the one time I used it. Ping is good enough for me in DOD:S and CS:S

Anyone here on Sky Connect? I'm not covered by the Sky network but I can get a good bundle of Sky connect and Sky TV so I'm considering it.

    Re: SKY broadband

FWIW I work at Sky Network Services and can probably provide some info.

@Parm - Sky Connect is also known as BT Option 4 - resold DSL where we don't have LLU unbundled exchange capacity.

For gaming purposes, the DSL we provide uses interleaved mode by default, not fast path, so although it's a bit more solid, there's a slightly higher latency. I'm not aware of which DSL providers do fast path other than UKOnline which is sort of owned by Sky. In theory if you can get through to our tier 3 support people, you might be able to convince them to change you to fast path.

I've never called our own support lines and so can't give a useful opinion on that.

www.samknows.com is a good site for UK ADSL info and includes a basic availability checker.

Happy to take PMs if you want to know any other specifics.

    Re: SKY broadband

    Thanks for the info Spidey!

Sky Connect is a re-named BT offering but I don't have much else available at my local exchange.

This is the exchange in question: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WNDAW

I've checked with Virgin Media and although its available from the exchange, it isn't available in the new development which houses my apartment.

The only LLU service comes from TalkTalk and I didn't like the look of any of the deals on their website.

I phoned up Sky to ask about Sky Broadband Max, and though that isn't available in my area, they offered my Sky Connect for £10 a month if I take out Sky TV with one of the premium channels. That works out at around £38 per month, which isn't all that bad for TV and broadband.

On the other hand, I could go for Freesat and a different broadband provider - that combo may work out cheaper. But looking at my exchange, I'm going to end up with a repackaged BT service no matter what.

O2 internet service providings are excellent. Their customer support is great; voted the best ISP for customer service according to their adverts!

24/7 freephone UK support, almost instant pickup too.
£10 for 16mb unlimited or £7.50 for 8mb (if you have an o2 mobile phone)
Upload speed of 1.2mb (much better than most providings)
    No capping at peak hours
    Good pings, excellent for gaming
    I like it
